Summary:
Scout and Walter go outside for recess. Scout starts to beat up Walter
and then Scout shoves his nose into the dirt. Jem sees Scout doing this
and tells Scout to stop. Jem invites Walter over for lunch. When Walter,
Scout, and Jem arrive they start to serve themselves and Walter pours
Molasses all over his food. Because of this, Scout says something about
it. Calpurnia yells at Scout because he was being rude to a guest.
Calpurnia says anyone that comes is a guest. Miss Caroline has a
student with lice. Scout doesnt want to go to school anymore because
Miss Caroline yelled at her for being able to read so well. Atticus,
Scouts father says she has to go to school because it is the law, but he
will still read to her.

Characters:
Walter Cunningham is in the same first class grade as Scout and Walters family is
really poor.
Scout is also known as Jean Louise Finch. She is Jems younger sister and
daughter of Atticus.
Jem could also be known as Jeremy Finch. He is the older brother to Scout and the
first son of Atticus.
Atticus is a lawyer and also is the father to Scout and Jem.
Calpurnia is the family cook to the family.
Little Chuck Little was another of Scouts fellow students and he was born a true
gentleman.
Miss Caroline is Scouts first grade teacher, at the beginning of the year they

Significant Event:
Jem invites Walter to come home for lunch with Scout and him. At the Finch
house, Atticus talks to Walter about farming, while Jem and Scout listen to him.
When they start to eat lunch, Walter pours molasses all over his food. Scout says
But hes gone and drowned his dinner in syrup. Calpurnia, the family cook, yells
at Scout for being rude to her guest. Scout says he isnt a real guest, and
Calpurnia replies that anyone that comes is a real guest and that you cant judge
anyone until you see from that person's point of view.
