express joy.

They dance often to traditional music or sing
themselves while dancing.

FOLK THEATRE: AN INTRODUCTION


The Earliest form of the theatre of India was
the Sanskrit Theatre. Klidsa in the 1st
century BC, is considered to be ancient India's
greatest Sanskrit dramatist. Folk theatre first
made its presence felt as an art form to
illustrate the realities of life. The Puranas,
historical epics, myths and biographies show
the emergence of Indian theatre. Folk theatre
in India is mainly narrative in form. Every state
in India has its own distinctive form of theatre
