Summary Journal:
Since the beginning of this year, I have continuously engaged myself in studying
medicine, specifically in the field of oncology. By putting in hours of time, effort, and dedication
into learning this area of expertise, I studied pancreatic cancer alongside my mentor Dr.
Wolfgangs assistance and the cancers involvement in the professional setting, which includes
the process of diagnosing a patient with a certain type (such as tumors on either the head or distal
end of the pancreas) and stage of pancreatic cancer and the process curing an eligible patient
from his or her pancreatic cancer, by way of potentially curative surgery.
As for the fourth quarter, I can conclusively look back, review all my work, and reflect on
both the tremendous obstacles and the exciting personal accomplishments I have obtained. As for
the obstacles, especially pertaining to the fourth quarter, scheduling with medical professionals
and understanding what these healthcare employees manage grew to become a beast to control. I
learned to manage my time precisely and to expect and unfortunately accept the consequences
that follow a mismanagement of time with respect to the adults in the real world. However, all
these difficulties I faced definitely brought their share of results. Receiving praise and other
positive feedback (in the form of compliments on feedback sheets and the award for the best
display board) on my painstaking hard work to background research an advanced topic highly
prevalent in the real world showed me that my at-home, on-site, and in-school commitment to
learning has paid off.
As the school year winds down, I can conclusively state that my life has not wound
down. While the grades are closing in for the rest of the students, I still need to complete my
final presentation to members of the general public in a clinical setting out of the country on my
visit to Indonesia this summer. In addition to the final presentation, I will be distributing flyers
which will hopefully deter citizens from smoking because of the disastrous effect it has on
patients pancreases. These flyers serve as my final product and my extension to my ongoing
research for this past year.
