Introduction
Kobelco Welding of Europe B.V.

Metal fabricators face the increasingly difficult challenge of decreasing costs while improving
product quality, productivity and workers environment. In addition, high labour force turnover and
lower skill levels are dictating a need for welding processes and consumables that are easy to use
and require less operator training.
The consumption of flux cored wires (tubular wires) is increasing every year due to their excellent
performance and the economical advantages of these wires. Requirements for an increased welded
joint quality and productivity pave way for a wide application of flux cored wires.
The gas shielded Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) process using Kobelco flux cored wire has the
potential to meet current needs and is flexible enough to meet even more demanding requirements
in the future. This is due to more than 30 years of research and development of flux cored wires.
Kobelco flux cored wires come in many different types in response to market requirements. Their
main characteristics of superior operability and high deposition are well known in the welding
industry. They make a great contribution to the reduction of the total cost of welding and the
improvement of the working environment for the welder.
Ei n le it u n g d e s Ko b e lco F ll d r h t e

Before welding, the shielding gas to be applied, parameters and welding method must be
determined.
Shielding gases
The proper gas composition is important for the bead appearance, weldability and the mechanical
properties of the weld metal.
Welding parameters
Welding current and voltage influence the arc stability, bead appearance, penetration, spatter, etc.
A proper welding current depends on type and size of wire and welding position. Welding speed
and stick-out should also be adjusted for optimum results.
Welding technique and torch angle
For welding stainless steel FCW, backhand welding achieves best results.
S ch w e i e n mit Ko b e lco F ll d r h t e n
Beim Schweien hochlegierter Flldrhte

rsultats.

a) The weld metal shall be analyzed for the specific elements in this table. If the presence of other elements is indicated in the course of this work, the
amount of those elements shall be determined to ensure that their total (excluding iron) does not exceed 0.50%.
b) Single values shown are maximum.
c) In this table, the X following the T refers to the position of welding (1 for all-position operation or 0 for flat or horizontal operation) and the X
following the dash refers to the shielding medium (-1,-4, or -5) as shown in the AWS Classification column in Table 2. For information concerning the
G, see A2.3.7 and A2.3.8 of the Annex. In A5.22-80, the position of welding was not included in the classification. Accordingly, electrodes classified
herein as either EXXXT0-1 or EXXXT1-1 would both have been classified EXXXT-1 and so forth.
d) ASTM/SAE Unified Number System for Metals and Alloys.
