ThroughoutmyELA11courseIhavereadmanyshortstories,poems,novels,
andarticles.Whilereadingthesedifferentwritings,Ivelearnedandconnectedwith
someofthem,especiallyreadingsfromthetranscendentalistsunit.Ilearnedthrough
thesereadingsthatIshouldntcarewhatsocietyhastosayorhowtheycategorize
peopleandlabelpeoplebasedonstereotypes.
ThelessonsthatIlearnedfromthesereadingsconnectedinsomewaystomy
ownlife.Forinstance,formyseniorprojectIminterestedinsharingmoreofmyLatino
HeritagewiththeBACSCommunity.BecauseImtryingtoaddmoreLatinohistoryat
BACS,manyofmyfriendsthinkitsracistandexcludesothers.IhavedecidedthatIwill
followwhatRalphWaldoEmersonstatesinhisreading,
SelfReliance,
whatImustdo
isallthatconcernsme,notwhatthepeoplethink,andapplyittothissituation.Inother
words,IshouldjustdowhatImpassionatetochangeattheBACScommunity
regardlessofwhatpeoplethinkofmyproject.
AfterreadingmanypoemsandstoriesinELA11,Iwillalwaysrememberthisunit
anditllforeverremainconnectedtomylifeinsomeway.ForthisreasonIam
appreciativetohavelearnedaboutTranscendentalism,especiallyduringmyJunioryear
beforemyseniorproject.Ithasimpactedmegreatlytothinkdifferentlyaboutwhat
othershavetosayandwhetherornottheywanttoseemesucceed.Ithashelpedme

becomeamuchmoreopenmindedpersonandindifferenttowhatotherpeoplesayor
thinkofme.
