It is with pleasure that I recommend Trish Weasel Fat as an addition to your team. I am a grade one teacher at Senator Buchanan Elementary School in Lethbridge, Alberta. I had the privilege of mentoring Trish for three months in her last practicum while she worked in our classroom. She was responsible for planning and assessment as well as teaching 50% of the school day during this time. Trishs calm and genuine demeanor as well as her passion for cultural education are some of her greatest attributes. She made herself accessible to her students and worked hard to infuse humor and fun into her practice both as a way to engage her learners as well as to build a positive classroom culture. Trishs thoughtful planning in her lessons on heritage and tradition impacted not only our class but the school as she was requested to teach her lesson on dreamcatchers to the grade 4/5 classes. She brought this even further by leading a Culture Club for students that she would meet with every Wednesday at lunch to honor the arts, games and stories from a variety of ethnicities and culminated in a final presentation in a school-wide assembly to increase awareness and appreciation for diversity. Some other ways Trish was able to develop professionally and demonstrate her abilities was through her involvement and collaboration with another intern teacher in the school while leading a multiage outdoor games group during our Wonder Wednesday period as well as by contributing marks and comments during our second term reporting period. I am pleased to hear that Trish is continuing her professional learning and believe that she will make a difference wherever she goes.
