Youth unemployment

What is unemployment?
Dictionary definition of being without a job.
Where a person is looking for a job but is unable to find
one.
Must be of working age and be able bodied
Stats show that in SA, 3.3 million people are
unemployed as at jan 2015.
75% are youths

Causes
Lack of opportunities: strides made but not enough
emphasis on agriculture and the retail industry.
The economy is fairly stagnant. Mostly office jobs
Mismatch in skilled and unskilled labour
Laziness. No work ethic
Lack of qualifications
Ever changing economic conditions

Solutions
Prioritise economic growth: labour intensive activities
No shortcuts: restructure education system, More
practicals
More voluntary work
Remove welfare grants esp youth
Enhance income dist.
Better access to land capital tech etc
Stop employee poaching
Strengthen R/ship btwn Further ed training colleges and
employers
