South Asian Free Trade Area(SAFTA)

1. Intra-regional trade of South Asia stands at

just five percent on the share of intraregional trade in overall trade in South Asia.
2. The intra-regional FDI flow stands at around
four percent of the total foreign investment.
3. Over 50 % of intra-regional imports are on
the sensitive list shielded from tariff cuts.
4. It is reported that more than 85% of non tariff
barriers in south asia are accounted for by
technical barriers and sanitary measures.
