CWU-27/P Flight Suit

These are the Flight Suits worn by United States Army, Navy, Air Force
and Marine Corps pilots. Straight from the military production line, they
are manufactured to military specification MIL-C83141A using producerdyed fabric made from 92% NOMEX fiber, 5% KEVLAR fiber, and 3%
P-140 anti-static fiber. The zippers are made from NOMEX with solid
brass teeth and the thread is made from KEVLAR. Meticulous in detail,
these are genuine, first quality flight suits. Even though theyve already been
inspected to tough government standards, we inspect them again and reject
nearly one out of ten. Because of their popularity, we usually have hundreds
in stock for immediate delivery.

color, our FSL-27/P was made just for you. Weve tailored thousands of them
for all branches of the United States military and for foreign governments,
aircraft operators, and pilots. Theyve ordered orange for search and rescue,
blue for naval aviators, black for counter-terrorism and almost every other
color and fabric. Customers tell us our FSL-27/P flight suits look better and
last longer than those made anywhere else.
We manufacture them from 5-ounce fabric of NOMEX IIIA in royal blue,
navy, khaki, black and orange.

This uniform is the spitting image of the popular CWU-27/P found in the
cockpits of US military aircraft flying over the worlds hotspots. Not only
does it have every standard feature of the CWU-27/P, but you can customize
it to your exact specifications. First choose any of our specialty fabrics and
colors, even military sage green. Then specify all the extra pockets, zippers,
tabs, stripes, and embroidery you need to do your job. The Sentinel Uniform
comes in standard sizes, and you can even order it precisely tailored to your

Sentinel Jackets have all the features of CWU jackets currently worn by
military pilots, plus a pleated action back that gives you unlimited horizontal
and vertical reach. The Sentinel includes angled front pockets and a zippered
sleeve pocket with a pencil pocket.
Its available in all our uniform fabrics and we make it in both lightweight
and warm styles. Jackets made from Resolute polyester/cotton twill fabric
feature either a lightweight polyester twill lining or warm Thinsulate
Insulation. Jackets made from NOMEX IIIA fiber come with a lightweight

Sentinel 3-Season Jacket

Sentinel 3-season Jackets have all the features of our standard Sentinel jacket.
The 3-season comes with your choice of a NOMEX fleece vest, or jacket.
Wear the shell and fleece liner as a combo, or either of them separately,
depending on the forecast. The Sentinel includes an action back, angled front
pockets and a zippered sleeve pocket with a pencil pocket.
Its available in all our NOMEX fabrics. The zip-out liner is made of a warm
NOMEX 13-ounce fleece. Choose between a vest, or a full jacket made of
fleece. Fleece is only available in black.

Classic Uniform
If you like the military flight suit, but want something a little more tailored,
youll like the design of our Classic Uniform. We started with the CWU-27/P
that American military pilots have worn for over 50 years. We removed some
little used pockets and zippers and added sewn-in creases to give you a trim,
professional appearance. But the final look and design is up to you. You can
add custom pockets for extra gear, removable sleeves for hot climates, stripes
to match your company colors, and embroidered names and logos for that
personal touch. Available in any of our Resolute polyester/cotton fabrics and
fabrics made with NOMEX IIIA fiber.

Classic Jacket
Our Classic Jackets are styled after the famous Airforce MA-1 with knit
cuffs, collar and waistband. Includes flap-covered pockets with hook & loop
closures, and a zipper sleeve pocket. Inside, the traditional snap pockets are
gone, but you can add an inside wallet pocket to keep your cash and cards
close by. Finish things off with stripes or your embroidered logo and name.

Every feature of the Guardian has been designed with the professional in
mind. It has concealed zippers and a shirt-style collar and cuffs. Dressy 2-inch
wide waist tabs for men and a 1 1/2-inch belt for women. Sewn-in creases
keep you looking slim and trim while doing your job. The angled chest
pockets give you easy access to your gear and there is plenty of room above
the pockets for company logos and nametags. Lower leg pockets and a sleeve

Reflective Letters
Reflective lettering identifies your organization and lets you be seen at night. You can
specify almost anything you want in letters up to 6-inches high. You can even have your
reflective logo or special design on your uniform.
Letters are priced by the line.
You can choose from three standard type fonts or, for an extra charge, choose from
our library of over 10,000 fonts. We cut out your letters from a solid piece of film and
permanently fuse them to the back, front, or pockets of your uniform or jacket.

Height
You can put as many letters as will fit on a straight line and write as many lines as you
need. You can fit more letters on a line using a smaller font. The distance between the
back pleats on a uniform is about 11-inches, except on small sizes.
You can also create a custom design using text, an image, or your logo. Custom designs
have a one-time design charge that depends on the amount of work needed to program the

DEFIANT uniform fabrics are available in 5-ounce plain-weave, 6.5-ounce twill, and
4.5-ounce mil-spec fabric. Five-ounce fabric is strong, but also light weight and cool. The 6.5ounce twill has a crisp, professional appearance and will give years of good-looking service.
The 4.5-ounce military-specification fabric is used for the military CWU-27/P flight suit and is

RESOLUTE Cotton Polyester Uniform Fabrics

Gibson & Barnes RESOLUTE uniform fabrics are a blend of cotton and polyester. They are
comfortable and long- wearing. Cotton fiber keeps you cool and polyester fiber keeps your
uniform neat and crisp. RESOLUTE fabrics are shrink and pilling resistant. They have a soilrelease finish that resists stains and makes them easy to clean and launder.
Standard-weight RESOLUTE uniform fabric is a 7.5-ounce twill woven from 65% polyester
and 35% long-staple cotton fibers. Because it is twill, it presses crisply and keeps its clean, neat
looks even after rough wear in humid weather. It is an ideal weight for uniforms, jackets, and
pants and will give long, comfortable, crisp service.
Light-weight RESOLUTE uniform fabrics are recommended if you work in extremely warm
conditions. They are a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Although light weight, they give
you good, crisp wear.
Gibson & Barnes sews RESOLUTE uniforms with strong polyester thread and uses
tough, smooth-sliding nylon coil zippers. You can launder or dry clean garments made from
RESOLUTE uniform fabrics.

Navy/Marine Corps WEP Jacket

Navy and Marine Corps aviators loved the comfortable WEP jackets they
were issued in the 1960s. The Navy designed the WEP as a warm liner for
cold-water survival suits, but Naval Aviators quickly adopted it as their
unofficial flight jacket.
Our WEP closely duplicates the original U.S. Navy specification jacket. It is
made from the same Mil-Spec nylon and has the same cotton twill lining and
the original deep-cut knit cuffs. The unique bi-swing back and sleeves give
you unparalleled freedom of movement. The elasticized waistband and storm

The U.S. Air Force issued the MA-1 from the 1950s to the 1980s, and
it is one of the most famous flight jackets of all time. The outer shell is
nylon Flite Satin with an orange nylon lining and warm polyester batting

Heavy nylon knit cuffs, collar, and waistband keep the chill out. It has flap

Active noise reduction circuitry senses noise in the earcup, inverts it in phase,

The only standards for aviation helmets are those

developed by the armed forces. There are no
standards for commercial aviation helmets. Any
company can call its commercial helmet a Flight
Helmet or Helicopter Helmet without regard to
the helmets actual quality or performance.
The military takes aviation performanceresearch
seriously. The Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast
Guard each have organizations devoted to aviation
performance research. After analyzing accident
data, they set performance goals and standards
and then work with Gentex to design helmets that
achieve those goals.

Since there are no commercial aviation helmet

standards, and no certifying organization, the
most practical way to select a flight helmet is to
purchase a helmet approved by a modern military
helicopter force.

Gentex HGU-56 Helicopter Helmets

The U.S. Armys newest helicopter helmet,
Gentexs HGU-56, is being used by the U.S.
Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and by the Marine
Corps for V-22 Osprey operations. The HGU-56
offers greater impact and tear protection than
other helicopter helmets as well as many other
improvements.
The HGU-56 shell is a hybrid composite made from
SPECTRA and graphite embedded in an epoxy
matrix. Graphite provides the stiffness and rigidity
needed for NVG goggles. SPECTRA helps prevent
penetration of the helmet and helps the helmet
withstand multiple impacts that are common in
helicopter accidents. SPECTRA also allows the
HGU-56 shell to flex during an impact as a means of
dissipating energy.

The fitting liner is Gentexs new Super Comfort

Liner that uses several dimpled plastic sheets with
an inner layer of viscoelastic foam for comfort. The
entire liner is covered by washable cloth fabric that
can be replaced when dirty.
The HGU-56 retention utilizes V straps attached
directly to the helmet. The chinstrap is attached to
the bottom of the V. straps. A wide, adjustable
napestrap integrates with the V straps. The
combined V straps, low-elongation chinstrap, and
integrated nape strap yields an exceptionally stable
helmet. Sound-attenuating earcups attach to the
retention with Velcro for easy adjustability.
The dual visor assembly includes outer dark
and inner clear impact-resistant, UV-absorbing
lenses. An optional visor housing includes a quickdisconnect adapter that provides a stable platform
for ANVIS night vision goggles.

Gentex HGU-84 Helicopter Helmets

The HGU-84 helicopter helmet was developed
by Gentex for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Its rigid Graphlon composite shell is pressuremolded laminated graphite and ballistic nylon.
It is a lightweight, low profile, compact design. The
HGU-84s frontal opening is cut back for maximum
peripheral vision. Its genuine sheepskin edgeroll covers
a soft foam core around the entire edge of the shell.
The lightweight, tapered earcups, cushioned earseals,
and spacer pads provide excellent sound attenuation.

provides impact protection and a preformed Super
Comfort Liner assures a comfortable, stable fit. Its

Super Comfort Liners are made from layers of plastic and foam that
are molded to standard head sizes. SCL liners are very comfortable
because their inner layer of visco-elastic foam instantly and continuously
adjusts to your head. SCL liners must be used with a polystyrene energy
absorbing liner that is included in your helmet.

Inside the revolutionary X Liner are two layers of visco-elastic comfort

Dark Lens
Dark Lenses are used for moderate to bright sunlight conditions.

Gradient Lens
Gradient lenses help the wearer see instruments clearer when outside conditions are moderate to bright
sunlight and low light to dark conditions in the cockpit. An example of this set of conditions would
be flying into the sun at sunrise or sunset. The top of the lens is similar to a dark lens and the tinting
transitions from dark to light towards the bottom of the lens.
High Contrast Lens

High Contrast Visors (HCV) provide the wearer with a heightened and enhanced field of vision when
flying in low-light conditions, such as foggy, overcast, hazy, or cloudy environments. This advanced
polycarbonate HCV creates a viewing field where all blue components appear black or very dark and other
color components are nearly their normal color.

Communications
ANR utilizes precisely engineered earphone modules that

create a counter-balancing noise to cancel out up to 21
decibels of aircraft noise. The system operates on aircraft
power or on a single 9-volt battery.
ANR kits include a pair of ANRmodules, a 9-volt battery
pack, a pair of perfect-fit silicone gel ear seals, and
installation materials.
You can also choose an optional power source. An ANR

installation chrage applies. ANR installation should be
performed in our factory.
Helmets with ANR are designed to be used with ANR turned
on. When ANR is turned off, the passive sound attenuation of
the earcup will be less than if ANR had not been installed.

Carter Box Communication

The Carter box is a wired interface between your helmet and your
aircraft. Used by crew of air medical and airborne law enforcement
helicopters, the Carter box accesses your aircrafts radio and
internal communication system (ICS).
On our visits to customers, we have seen that Carter boxes tend
to take a lot of abuse. We chose to design the Carter box with a
rugged aircraft grade aluminum case over a plastic case to better
protect the circuitry from everyday bangs and drops. The circuitry
can be easily repaired or changed by Gibson & Barnes.

The Carter box features an aluminum volume control knob,

one ICS button and an optional radio transmit button that feel
different to the touch, a case sheltered Momentary/LOCK ICS
switch, and a strengthened helmet cord jack. The labels on the box
are laser etched so they can be customized and do not rub off.
Often seatbelts are used to clip on a Carter box, when not in use.
A durable and 360 degree cell phone style aluminum rotatable clip
is mounted on the side of the Carter box. The clip was designed to
reduce wear and tear on expensive seat belts.
We have an electrical engineer on staff to design and produce a
Carter box for your application.

When all those years of use are beginning to show on your helmet, you can send
it in for a complete refurbishment. First, well inspect it with a 22-point checklist.
Then well let you know the cost to bring it into like-new condition.
You can choose to replace worn-out and non-functioning parts or choose a complete
refurbishment. With your approval, well sand and repaint your helmet, replace the edge
roll and other helmet and communications parts. If you decide not to have your helmet
refurbished, well ship it back to you and you owe nothing except the cost of shipping.

Type A-2 Mark 31

The rarest and most beautiful original
A-2 jackets were made from russet
brown goatskin. While the Air Corps
specified horsehide before World War
II, contractors made a few A-2s from
goatskin. Most are now in museums, but
occasionally a collector brings one in to
us for repair. Amazingly, these original,
70-year old A-2s usually need only minor
repairs because the leather is still in
excellent condition with a warm, rich
patina.
The Gibson & Barnes Mark 31 is a
tribute to this rare, historical A-2.
It is made from large, grade-A,
vegetable-tanned goatskin that has been
drum-dyed and pigmented the original
Air Corps russet brown color. It is then
lightly glazed. Goatskin is incredibly
comfortable and light-weight, but also
strong and tear-resistant. A-2s made
from these hides have the same rich,
warm look as the original goatskin
jackets.
Even though the Air Corps original A-2
specification required a spun silk lining,
almost all A-2s were lined with cotton
to reduce expense. Gibson & Barnes has
meticulously reproduced the original
russet brown silk lining for the Mark
31 A-2 jacket. It feels exceptionally soft,
smooth and luxurious when you slip it
on.
The Mark 31 A-2 also has the other
features of the goatskin A-2s issued in
the early 1930s, including a one-piece
back, box-stitched shoulder straps,
1 /8-inch wide storm flap, gracefully
curved pocket flaps, and collar stand.

The pockets and collar are secured with

size 4 black oxide nipple snaps and the
neck with a nickel hook & eye. Under
the storm flap, the jacket zips up with
the required interlocking fastening
device, now commonly known as a
zipper.
The knit cuffs and waistband are
comfortable and durable, made from
pure worsted wool. Gibson & Barnes
has even reproduced the original A-2
label design, complete with Air Corps
contract number, and has marked the
lining with the Air Corps insignia and
authentic inspection stamp.

The Army Air Force ordered its last A-2

in 1943 and issued them to flyers until
the end of the war. A-2s made during
World War II were different than prewar jackets in two important ways: the
color varied from russet to mahogany
brown and the specification was
changed to remove the collar stand. The
collar stand was a 1/2-inch wide leather
strip between the collar and body of the
jacket. Without it the A-2 was easier to
make and looked more contemporary.

Type A-2 Mark 43

The Gibson & Barnes Mark 43 A-2 has
all the features found in the original
World War II A-2s. It is made from
3-ounce horsehide, the lining is tightly
woven, plain-weave cotton, and the
collar is attached directly to the body
of the jacket without a collar stand.
This A-2 has the same one-piece back
as jackets made during World War II
and the same box-stitched shoulder
straps, 13/8-inch wide storm flap, and
gracefully curved pocket flaps. The lining
even has an Army Air Force contract
label, USAAF insignia, and an Air Force
inspection stamp.
Gibson & Barnes crafts its Mark 43 Type
A-2 from large, grade A horsehides that
are drum-dyed and lightly pigmented.
Its cuffs and waistband are worsted
wool and the lining russet brown pure
cotton. The pocket and collar snaps have
a black oxide finish; the hook & eye at
the neck is nickel, and the zipper has a
bell-shaped pull.
This A-2 looks, wears, and feels just like
an original jacket made
during the war.

As the Army Air Corps prepared for war

in 1941, it ordered new fighters
and bombers and trained
thousands of young men
to fly them. Every pilot,
navigator, and gunner needed
flight clothing, and they wanted their
A-2 jackets.
Type A-2 Mark 41

The A-2 was the aviators badge of honor
and they proudly wore their jackets in
the air, on and off base, and especially
home on leave.
Gibson & Barnes Mark 41 A-2 is typical
of A-2 jackets made just before World
War II. Like the early A-2s, the Mark
41 has a collar stand between the jacket
collar and body. The collar stand is a
1/2-inch wide strip of leather, separately
lined and top stitched. While the stand
is difficult to make, it gives the collar an
elegant, military shape and roll.
This jacket also includes the best
features, materials, and colors of the
pre-war jackets. The Mark 41 A-2 has
a one-piece back, box-stitched shoulder
straps, collar stand, 13/8-inch wide
storm flap, and gracefully curved
pocket flaps. It even includes an A-2
label with an actual contract number
and lining marked with the Army Air
Corps insignia and an authentic AN
inspection stamp.
Gibson & Barnes makes the Type
A-2 Mark 41 jacket from drum-dyed
horsehide with the same look, weight
and feel as pre-war A-2s. The lining is
cut from tightly woven pure cotton,
dyed the original light brown. The knit
cuffs and waistband are made from snug,
comfortable worsted wool. The front
closure is a size 5 nickel zipper with bell

Flying Tigers A-2

In August 1941, thirty young Americans
stepped off their transport ship into
the steaming air of Rangoon, Burma.
They were the first of 60 pilots and 300
ground crew who volunteered to fight in
China. Organized into the 1st, 2nd, and
3rd Pursuit Squadrons, they flew P-40
Warhawks from primitive airstrips in
Burma and China and shot down 299
aircraft while losing only 12 P-40s.
These young Americans were the First
American Volunteer Group, more
commonly known as the Flying Tigers.
Despite their spectacular combat record,
the Flying Tigers were disbanded in July
1942. Many went home, but five pilots
joined the Army Air Force, flying P-51s
with the 23rd Fighter Group and still
referred to as the Flying Tigers.

Civil A-2
The A-2 jacket is steeped in military
history. Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle wore his
during the 1942 raid, General Douglas
MacArthur wore one at Inchon, and
today every Air Force pilot has one. But
civilians love them too. We make A-2s
for civilian flyers, corporate executives,
retired military, movie stars, and regular
folks who simply want a classic, goodlooking, practical leather jacket with a
great history.
Gibson & Barnes crafts its Civil A-2
jacket from Air Force patterns, but weve
added a couple of creature comforts as
well. An inside wallet pocket keeps your
wallet safe, welted hand-warmer pockets
keep your hands warm, and the leather
zipper facing protects the lining and
keeps the jacket good-looking even when
it is unzipped.
We meticulously craft each A-2 from
large, chrome-tanned, aniline-dyed,
lightly pigmented hides. The lining
is smooth, comfortable, long-wearing
polyester twill, and the cuffs and waist
band are snug, durable textured nylon.
A carefully stitched 13/8-inch wide storm
flap keeps out the wind. Under the
storm flap youll find a solid brass zipper
with an authentic bell pull and leather
thong. The collar snaps down and the
neck closes with a military hook & eye.
The epaulets are sewn in a regulation
box-stitch and ventilation eyelets under
the arms keep you cool. Our A-2s front

Air Force A-2

The A-2 is the most recognized, desired,
and coveted jacket ever made. Originally
ordered by the Army Air Corps in 1931,
it has been worn with pride by officers
and civilians for over 70 years. Although
officially retired in 1943, the A-2 was
reinstated in 1988 and has already seen
combat in Operation Desert Storm, the
Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
The Air Forces new A-2 is slightly
different from its World War II ancestor.
It is made from dark brown goatskin
rather than russet brown horsehide, and
its lining is dark brown twill rather than
light brown cotton.
Gibson & Barnes makes its A-2 using
top quality leather and superior work
manship. Thats why both the USAF
Thunderbirds and Army Golden Knights
wear our A-2 jackets with hand-made
leather patches. The Thunderbirds even
presented a Gibson & Barnes A-2 to
President George W. Bush at the White
House.
We use grade-A goatskins that are
chrome-tanned, aniline-dyed, and lightly
pigmented. These large hides give your
jacket a beautiful grain and warm luster.
The comfortable lining is long-wearing
polyester twill. The smooth-sliding
solid brass zipper has a bell pull and
leather thong. Black-oxide snaps secure
the pockets and the neck closes with a
military hook & eye.

Navy M-422A
The Navys Bureau of Aeronautics
(BuAero) first issued the M-422 to
aviators in 1938. Admiral Bull Halsey
wore an M-422 when Hornet launched
Jimmy Doolittles B-25s toward Tokyo in
1942. Lt. Butch OHare, the Navys first
ace and a Medal of Honor winner, wore
his M-422 flying F-4Fs with the Fighting
3rd. The Flying Tigers ordered M-422s
for their pilots flying P-40s in China.
BuAero widened the M-422s left pocket
/2-inch in 1941, added a pencil slot, and
designated the jacket M-422A. In 1942,
the wide left pocket was eliminated and
an inset welt pencil pocket was added.
Gibson & Barnes makes its M-422A
with the wider left pocket, just like the
rare early jackets.

required light seal brown goatskin with
a reddish brown mouton (lambs wool)
collar. The lining was crimson twill. The
zipper was a size 5 nickel zipper with
bell pull. The knit cuffs were standard
rib knit, but the waistband was a single
layer of rib-rack.
Original M-422As had the letters USN
stenciled under the collar in black, white,
or silver paint, but the jacket did not
have the letters punched into the storm
flap like the G-1. They did have an inside,
snap-shut chart pocket and a graceful
throat latch to keep out the cold.
Gibson & Barnes makes a faithful
reproduction of the M-422A, by using
the same drum-dyed, semi-aniline,
light seal brown goatskin leather.
We precisely duplicated the rib-rack knit
waistband as well. The lining is exactly
the same yarn, weave, and color as the
original lining. The front zipper is a size
5 nickel zipper with bell pull. We even
stencil USN under the collar in black
paint, exactly like an original M-422A.

The Navys first carrier landing was

made on October 26, 1922 when
Lieutenant Commander Godfrey
Chevalier brought an Aeromarine
biplane aboard USS Langley.
Today the Navys aircraft
carriers are more than three
football fields long and their jets are
heavy, fast, and devastatingly effective.
Naval Aviators havent changed, though.
They demonstrate the same quiet, steady
courage and competence as they catapult
off the bow and return to trap the 3-wire
on a rolling, pitching deck.
Navy G-1
The Naval Aviators love of their leather
flight jackets hasnt changed either.
The G-1 jacket is one of the most coveted
possessions of Naval Aviators. Most G-1s
are covered with squadron, carrier, and
aircraft patches from the aviators duty
assignments. First issued in 1938 as the
M422 and renamed the AN-J-3a in 1943,
the Navys famous flight jacket became
the G-1 in 1951.
Gibson & Barnes follows the original
Navy specifications and patterns for the
G-1. We make it from large, drum-dyed,
semi-aniline goatskins and use genuine
mouton (lambs wool) for the collar, knit
for the cuffs and waistband, and a heavy
solid brass zipper.
Quick inspection of your jacket shows
the utmost attention to detail and
quality. Roll the collar up on your G-1
and youll notice the gracefully curved
throat latch. There is a carefully
sewn pencil pocket under the
left pocket flap, USN cleanly
punched into the storm flap,

Civil G-1
Every Navy combat ace has worn the
famous G-1 jacket or one of its ancestors,
the M-422 or AN-J-3a. Lt. Edward
Butch OHare became the Navys first
ace and won the Congressional Medal of
Honor when he shot down five enemy
planes in one flight. Marine Lt. John Bolt
became an ace with VMF-214 when he
shot down six Japanese planes over the
Solomons and six more Soviet MiGs in
Korea. Lt.Duke Cunningham became
Americas first Vietnam ace when he
shot down five MiGs, including three-inone swirling engagement over the North.
The G-1 is an official Navy uniform item,
but Naval Aviators cant resist wearing it
with their civilian clothes. Civilians love
the jacket too, and for them weve added
welt hand-warmer pockets right behind
the Military Specification button-down
pockets. Now our Civil G-1 is as perfect
as a flight jacket can be.

F-82 Flight Jacket

The Air Force built its F-82 Twin
Mustang by combining two P-51
fuselages to make a superb long-range
fighter. The F-82 entered service after
WWII and shot down the first three
North Korean aircraft in June 1950.
In the same way the Air Force combined
two aircraft to create the F-82 Twin
Mustang, Gibson & Barnes has
combined the front of the Air Force
A-2 with the back of the Navy G-1 to
create an even better F-82 flight jacket.
The F-82 has the A-2s precisely stitched
pockets with gracefully-curved snapshut flaps. Its A-2 storm flap keeps out
the wind and its solid brass zipper with
authentic bell pull and leather thong
zips smoothly and securely. The leather
collar snaps down just like the A-2 and
the epaulets are sewn in a regulation A-2
box-stitch.
The F-82 has the Navy G-1s belted,
bi-swing, action back sewn in both
the leather and the lining to give you

Air Corps B-3

The Army Air Corps developed the B-3
jacket in 1934 to protect flight crews at
high altitude. Aircraft were able to climb
to over 30,000 feet where the temperature
was 40 below zero, but they lacked
pressurization and heaters.
Made from warm sheepskin shearling,
the B-3 was the most popular winter
flying jacket of World War II. Hollywood
loved it too, and it was immortalized in
countless World War II movies including
Stalag 17, The War Lover, and 12 Oclock
High.
Ground troops also liked the B-3 and
scrounged them whenever they could.
Nothing kept out the European cold
and wind better than a shearling jacket.
General George S. Patton wore a B-3 as his
3rd Army raced north to Bastogne during
the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944.
Gibson & Barnes makes a faithful copy
of the original Army Air Corps B-3 from

General George S. Patton wore a B-3 as
his 3rd Army raced north to Bastogne
during the Battle of the Bulge in
December 1944.
Gibson & Barnes has adapted the B-3
for civilian use by adding two generous
front pockets for your gear, rather than
the Air Corps single patch pocket.
We make the B-3 from luxurious brown
sheepskin shearling with thick creamcolored wool, an antiqued brass finish
zipper and buckles. When the weather
is cold and windy, you can turn up the
collar and buckle it closed. You can even
cinch in the waist with the leather straps
and buckles.

Skyliner is cut full and slightly
off-the-shoulder. Its unique pull-out
action back allows you to easily reach
over your head. The leather cuffs snap
shut and the back of the waistband
is elasticized so it adjusts to you.
The snap-shut storm flap over the zipper

Your Skyliner will be made from

uses grade-A hides that are drum-dyed
and lightly pigmented so the leather will

polyester twill lining slips on easily, the

the black-oxide S-ring snaps click shut

Skyliners design is clean and elegant.
We use large hides so we can make your
jacket from fewer pieces. Most jacket
makers split the back into two pieces,
but ours is cut from a single hide. Even
the storm flap is cut as part of the front
of the jacket, rather than a strip of
leather sewn on top.
You can slip your rank insignia over
the epaulets. Youll have two large inset
chest pockets with plenty of room for
your gear, inset welt pockets to keep
your hands warm, and a large leatherbound inside pocket for your wallet. Slip
on your Skyliner, call for clearance, and

The Catalina is a full-cut, slightly
off-the-shoulder jacket with
snap-closed sleeve cuffs and dressy
clean-finished plackets (slits above
the cuffs). The leather waistband
is smooth in front and back with
elasticized sides to keep it snug.
Gibson & Barnes makes the Catalina
from large, grade-A, high-quality leather
that is chrome-tanned and drum-dyed
with aniline dyes. Then it is lightly
pigmented to preserve the leathers

Expedition
The Expedition is a
precise replica of a jacket youve seen
in several popular films. We found an
original in Hollywood and duplicated
every detail including the pattern, leather
and hardware. Then we asked three
experts to criticize it. We incorporated
their suggestions into our design, and now
the Expedition jacket is absolutely correct.
Gibson & Barnes makes the Expedition
from chrome-tanned, drum-dyed,
semi-aniline, top-grade leather. Its twill
lining will give years of wear and stay
comfortable even in humid weather. The
smooth-sliding zipper is solid brass with
a bell pull. The adjustable side straps even
have the original black-oxide rectangular
D-rings.
The Expedition has a four-piece action
back and open barrel cuffs so you can
move freely and quickly. There is even an
action back in the lining. The storm flap
and side vent straps keep out the wind
when the weather turns blustery. And, at
the end of a tough day, you can hang it up
by its strong leather hangar.
The collar has a 3/4-inch-wide leather
stand so it rolls over perfectly. You
can stow your gear in two generous
snap-shut pockets and keep your hands
warm in the hidden side-entry
pockets. Theres even an
inside wallet pocket for your
passport and steamship

design has made it a favorite of aviators
and adventurers for the last 60 years.
It is made from your choice of goatskin
or vintage cowhide nappa. Cowhide
nappa is comfortable, supple leather.
This cowhide has been dyed so that the
pigment wears off slightly as you wear
the jacket, giving it a vintage, broken-in
appearance.
The Raider has a recoiling bi-swing
back, in the leather and lining, to give
you complete lateral movement and a
double gusset under each arm for greater
vertical reach. Ventilation eyelets in the
underarm gussets keep you cool. The
leather storm flap and the knit cuffs and
waistband keep out the wind, even in a
desert sandstorm.
You can store your gear in the
top-entry zipper pockets, keep your
hands warm in the side-entry welt
pockets, and tuck your wallet securely
away in the inside pocket.

The Air Force

developed two new flight
jackets in the 1970s; a summer
jacket called the CWU-36/P and the
winter CWU-45/P. The design is so
well liked that it is the standard jacket
for air forces around the world and is
even popular among civilians.
Military CWU
Gibson & Barnes used the Air Forces
original CWU patterns to design a
leather jacket that looks just like the
military CWU-36 and 45. In fact, it
looks so much like the military jackets
that several government and military
units use it as a uniform jacket.
We make our leather CWU from
grade-A, chrome-tanned, semi-aniline
leather. The lining is polyester twill with
textured nylon cuffs and waistband. A
solid brass zipper closes over a leather
storm flap to keep out the wind.
Gibson & Barnes CWU jacket has the
same action back the Air Force included
in its original 1978 design. In the 1980s
they replaced it with a plain one-piece
back, but the older action back looks
so good and is so comfortable that we
kept it.
Two military cargo pockets give you lots
of room for your gear, and welt pockets
behind the cargo pockets keep your
hands warm. We removed the military
sleeve pocket and nametag hook & loop,
but added a leather-bound inside pocket
for your wallet. And we even make it in
military Sage Green.

Leather Choices
Every type of leather has its own unique
characteristics. Some are tough and strong,
while others are luxuriously soft and supple.
The leather you choose for your jacket
depends on how youll wear your jacket.
When you give your jacket hard wear at
work, you need strong leather like goatskin,
cowhide, or horsehide. If you wear your
jacket around town or out to dinner, youll
like the luxurious, supple feeling of goatskin
or lambskin.
Gibson & Barnes uses grade A and B
leather even though it can cost twice as
much as lower grades. Your jacket will be
more beautiful and will last longer because
high quality hides need only a light coat of
pigment.

Lambskin is very soft, luxurious leather.

Fashion designers prefer its naturally
light weight and velvety touch. It finishes
beautifully, has a soft hand, and drapes well.
With a little extra care, lambskin is very
wearable and is the ultimate luxury.
Horsehide is rugged enough for military
wear. Thats why the Army Air Corps
used it for the famous WWII A-2. Our
Italian-tanned horsehide is supple and
comfortable, but still tough enough for
a military jacket.

We also use large hides so we can make your

jacket with fewer pieces. Many of our jackets
have one-piece backs and our sleeves are
cut from only two pieces of leather. We also
throw away our scrap leather and dont try
to hide it under the collar or under a pocket
flap. Your jacket will look better, feel better,
and last longer.
Cowhide is the most common leather used
to make jackets because it is durable, easy
to care for, and resistant to water and dirt.
Its tough qualities are especially prized
by motorcycle riders and police officers.

Goatskin jackets last so long they are passed
