ABSTRACT

Power System consists of Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Substation

is the part of the Power system, where the Low voltages are step-up to High voltages near
generating stations and the reverse is the case at Distribution centers. This mechanism is
done at a specific place called Substation. At Substation all the voltages are handled with
care and accordingly the voltage is transmitted.
Protection plays a major role in substation. Some crores of money are invested
only for protection, in which occurrence of fault leads to damage of equipment, which in
turn leads the city to be in darkness.
The protective equipment in the Substation is Lightning Arrestors, CVTs,
CTs, PTs, Circuit Breakers, Isolator. Relays are also the protective element which senses
the fault currents or voltages and accordingly helps to open the circuit until the fault is
cleared and closes the circuit after the fault is cleared.
In this Mini Project it is explained, the importance of DC supply in the Substation
for the operation and control of the equipment and also the Advantages and
Disadvantages of DC supply at Substation etc., are explained.
