ProForm 3D

Where you can get your very own Mini-Me

By Lisa Talley

echnology. Its a rampantly growing

and improving industry that is
currently moving faster than a 20yr
old driving on Herndon ave. Weve gone
from photographs to film, TV to home
video cameras And now, most of us are
walking around with a high resolution, even
4k, video and picture capturing devices in
our pockets that also connect to a vast web
of infinite knowledge. When we all thought
our access to rising technology couldnt get
much better, 3D printing erupted on to
the scene and blew us away with what was
possible.

A quick Google search will give
you results like a
mind-boggling 3D
printing pen which
allows the user to
essentially sculpt in real
time as they draw out an
idea. Various websites exist
which promise 3D printing
for just about anything that
you can imagine, turning your
idea in to a tangible 3D reality.
Videos have surfaced showing
custom prosthetics having been
made affordably via 3D printing for
amputees and the disabled, for both
humans and animals alike, that otherwise
would have been extremely time consuming
and costly through traditional means.

It seems as though this highly
desirable service lives mostly across the
internet and in major metropolitan areas,
but lucky for us a 3D printer is closer than
you probably would have guessed. ProForm
3D is an independently owned small
business located in Clovis specializing in 3D
printing.

Were a local 3D print bureau
serving the Central Valley. Companies can
come to us whether theyre looking for a

single prototype, casting molds or lowvolume runs without having to wait months
or having to pay the higher fees associated
with traditional manufacturing methods,
says the owner, John Elisarraraz.

ProForm 3D works with companies,
inventors, startups and the rest of us looking
for a fun and unique way to commemorate
something or someone. So its not just for
manufacturing purposes. One of the more
popular services the shop provides is what
Elisarraraz calls Mini-Mes.

We can take a full body scan of a
Bride and Groom and turn them into their
very own wedding cake toppers, in full
color and to scale.
Those we call our
Mini-Mes. Theyre
pretty neat, and not
only for wedding cake
toppers but also for
special occasions like your
child in cap & gown or a
bust of a soon-to-be retiree
etc. Basically, if they can scan
it, they can print it.

But what about the things
that cannot be scanned? From a
sketch of the design down to even
just a verbal description, Elisarraraz
says they can take what you give them
and have something in your hands within
a few weeks, and sometimes even within a
few days. Their team recreates your sketch or
idea by using CAD software and presents the
concept in a way their printers can interpret,
to give you the product youre looking for.

One especially useful way to utilize
this technology is within a businesss website
to showcase their products. Companies
might find it appealing to offer their web
visitors the ability to view their product(s)
from every angle, fully allowing them
to rotate, scale and click on different

components of the product with pop-up bits

of information. Sometimes, pictures arent
enough, and depth doesnt always translate
well via traditional flat imagery.

Probably one of the more surprising
bits of information about 3D printing is
that it isnt as expensive as it sounds. And
certainly not as costly as the more traditional
methods of manufacturing. However, there
is no one-size-fits-all and each orders
price is determined by its own individual
complexity. But with ProForm 3D, they
dont require you to fill a minimum order
quantity and they also have a variety of
materials to choose from (plastics, resins,
metals and full color gypsum) to help keep
the service cost effective for customers.

3D printing is a versatile service
that can be used in a multitude of ways.
Even if youre not a company, or an inventor,
or even if youre not looking to make a MiniMe you can always scan your best-friends
face and turn them in to a bobble head.
Yes, they can even make bobble-heads, and
who doesnt love that?

To learn more about ProForm
3D and their services, or to see more
examples of the type of work they do visit
www.ProForm3D.net. If youre in the
neighborhood stop by their shop at 205
W. Bullard Ave #7 Clovis, 93612 any time
between 9am-2pm. You can also reach them
at 559-800-7017. They are also available via
email and you can send all general inquiries

Summertime

with the top down! If that doesnt
say summer, I dont know what
does. The sensation of the sunshine and
breeze on your face feels like freedom.

This freedom often extends to bugs
and odors though, too. Keeping the car
clean can be a challenge. No one wants to
smell stinky feet smell or rotting seaweed
the day after a trip to the beach. Essential
oils offers some easy and effective ways to
keep your car clean and fragrant all summer
long.

One of my favorite tricks is
putting a few drops of Purification oil on
the floor mats of my car. The heat during
the day as well as the sunshine will diffuse
Purification all day long. This oil is my
personal go to oil for removing odors
and unwanted smells from the car (or
any confined area.) You can also put it on
cotton swabs or even make-up remover
pads and clip them onto your air vents to
diffuse the oils.

What if your kids (OK, or maybe
even you) grind stuff into the carpet with
your shoes? Basic carrier oils (like V6)
often loosen grim and unidentified items
from carpets so that you can get rid of
those unnecessary donations. After they
are gone, add your favorite summer scent
(maybe Hawaiian sandalwood or jade
lemon oils) to freshen the air inside the car.
If the sunscreen stayed
at home while you were
out cruising around with
the top down, minor
sunburn irritations can
often be relieved with
lavender oil. Remember
not to use citrus oils (like
lemon, tangerine, orange,
or citrus) directly on your
skin while you are enjoying
the sun. These may react
with the rays and cause a
different kind of irritation.

Mans Powerful Story of Change

Lets not do that.

Remember that lavender that
soothed your sunburn? Lavender is also a
natural insect repellant. You no longer need
to lather your skin with smelly and sticky
bug spray. Just a couple drops of lavender
can normally keep the bugs away for hours.

Your car is not the only place that
accumulates extra smells in the summer.
Your home also gets exposed to more
outdoor things in the summer than it does
in the winter. Dont ask me why, but if you
think about it you will agree. The variety

By simply being supportive, giving
his time, and sharing his experiences, Larry has seen so many lives turn around. He
encourages youth to take advantage of positive
outlets here in the valley such as sports,

encouragement: life is full of second chances,
so long as we are determined to leave our old
ways behind and take the road less traveled.
Where would you like your road to lead; to a
place of success, joy, and the ability to encourage othersor to one of destitution, regret,
and fear? The choice is yours.

Fun Facts
Summer Solstice Edition

1. Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words

meaning sun + to stand still. As the days lengthen, the
sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the
sky, a pivotal moment in the seasonal calendar. As a major
celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day
and the shortest night of the year, which occurs on June 20th
of this year.
2. In the Northern Hemisphere, where it is the longest day
of the year in terms of daylight, the June Solstice is also
called the Summer Solstice. In the Southern Hemisphere, on
the other hand, it is the shortest day of the year and is known
as the Winter Solstice. Solstices are opposite on either side of
the equator, so the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere
is the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere and vice
versa.

3. Fathers Day is celebrated at different times around the

world. Spain and Belgium celebrate fathers on March
19; Australia and New Zealand honor fathers on the first
Sunday in September; and in Britain, Canada, and the
U.S., Fathers Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in
June.

7. Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for

centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known
as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (see Shakespeare), St.
Johns Day, or the Wiccan Litha.

world of grilled cheese possibilities opens

up that you would have never thought
possible.
To better illustrate what these sandwiches might look like, here are three tips to
inspire your next grilled cheese adventure:

1. The veggie-centric grilled cheese.

Leafy greens pair beautifully with an
earthy, salty cheese like Gruyere. These
veggie-based sandwiches are about to go
mainstream this year, as showcased in the
Farm-to-table Grilled Cheese that features
arugula alongside a broken egg yolk, adding a veggie focus to an otherwise indulgent sandwich.

2. The Hawaiian grilled cheese.

The Next Generation of an

American Classic

(BPT) - Its not always easy for parents

to remember what it was like to be a kid.
Its hard to understand why a bug can be
so fascinating, or how toy trucks or dolls
can entertain one for hours. But if theres
one thing that can take you back to your
childhood, its food.

For example, imagine a grilled
cheese sandwich - how the toasted,
buttery bread dissolves on your tongue,
while the ooze of the cheese cools in your
mouth - everything about it has the unmistakable taste of childhood.

And just like you, the grilled
cheese sandwich has grown up.

New Frontiers
The grilled cheese is the type of sandwich that takes you from childhood to

adulthood, and its the type of recipe that

matures as you do. Gone are the days of
American cheese and floppy bread. There
are so many twists on the grilled cheese
that its easy to indulge in the ooey-gooey goodness while still working in some
healthier menu items like vegetables and
more sophisticated flavor profiles for your
grown-up palate.
The foundation of such a sandwich begins
with the right kind of bread. Ideally, it
should be thick sliced, have a soft texture
and a rich flavor. Bread that meets these
expectations can now be conveniently
found in the grocery aisle with the new
Sara Lee Artesano Bread, which has the
distinct golden crust and creamy character
found in bread made from scratch.
With two perfect slices of bread, a whole

To really create a luau for your taste buds,

combine a sweet, buttery cheese like
Havarti with a tangy barbecued meat.
Further tropical flavors of the Hawaiian Islands can be found in the barbecued-pork and pineapple magic of the
Aloha Pork Grilled Cheese, which mixes
sweetness and spice all in one.

3. The spicy and pickled grilled

cheese.
Its true, you can pickle almost anything.
Onions, cabbage and other items are pure
magic after the fermentation process, as
showcased in the Zesty Grilled Cheese
sandwich that utilizes red onion and spicy,
artisan pickles. Pair this with a mild,
creamy Fontina cheese to mellow out that
added zing.
Some people might think eating a grilledcheese sandwich is a nostalgic throw back
to childhood. In some ways it is. But with
the right kind of bread, the possibilities
for a grilled cheese are truly endless. All it
takes is a couple of buttered slices of Sara
Lee Artesano Bread and a little imagination to turn your favorite childhood meal
into a bold, culinary creation that everyone is sure to enjoy.
