Language Acquisition Reflection

First language acquisition

What I have learnt was how people acquire their first language. Firstly, babies
coo and cry. At the end of the their first year, they make special attempts to
imitate words. About 18 months they begin to say two-word or three-word
sentences. By the age of three they take incredible input and by the school age
children not only learn what to say but also how to say.
According to behavioristic approach, linguistic behaviors are the publicly
observable responses given to the stimuli. If this response is rewarded, it
increase or if the person is punished because of that behavior, it extinguishes.
On the other hand, nativist approach supports that we are borne with a language
acquisition device.
I suppose I need to study a bit more to compare what I had learnt before to see
the limitations of each ones.
I believe I may use in this information my teaching because learning a
language is a very difficult and slow process. I will not make my students speak
by force. I know that when they will begin to speak after they take enough input.
I must be very patient.
