From the Desk of Ms.

Jones
Dear Students,
After some discussion with the school principal, we have decided that we
would like student input when creating our classroom time schedules. You will be
the ones following the schedules and you know how you learn best, so it only
makes sense that you help us in this process.
We would like your team to create a prototype schedule for our school day.
When making your schedule you will need to include time for all five academic
subjects including Reading, Math, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. You will
also have to work around the times for Special Areas and Lunch that have been
assigned to our class. It is up to you to decide when we teach each subject in the
school day and how long is spent on each subject.
To help you create your schedule I have provided a table that indicates the
preferences of both the principal and I. You can write your own preferences as
students in what would be the last row of the table, and then use your notes to
guide your decisions. I have also created a blank schedule template that you can
use to create your prototype schedule.
After you have created your prototype schedule, please write a detailed
letter back to me justifying and explaining your decision-making process and
procedure for creating the schedule. I look forward to hearing from you soon and
appreciate all of your help! Whichever group has the most well-written and
persuasive emails will get their schedule used on the next early release day.

Sincerely,
Ms. Jones
