ETHICS REFORM Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) issues comments on the conclusion of the 2016 Legislative Session
I am pleased that, as a result of the Assembly Republican Conferences leadership, the
Legislature agreed on a plan to fight the heroin and opioid addiction epidemic. The package of legislation will increase accessibility to recovery services and establish more stringent regulations for the distribution of opioids and pain mediation, among other provisions. But, we also need stronger penalties on the criminal justice side of this issue to lock up the poisoners that are selling to our youth. I am also proud to announce the passage of a comprehensive ethics package that includes pension forfeiture for corrupt lawmakers and policymakers. This is long overdue and a shameful reflection on Assembly leadership that it took until the last day of session for us to pass this common sense, money saving measure. ###
