The document provides information about a proposed study on optimizing construction projects through applying project management principles at a gold mine in Ghana. Specifically, it will analyze the lifecycle of the mine's annual civil works projects for reclaiming disturbed land and identify bottlenecks preventing completion on schedule, scope, and budget. The study will propose remedies based on project management principles and a system to ensure consistent application of the solutions. Data from 2012-2014 will be gathered to validate issues affecting the project's schedule, scope, and budget.

THE PROPOSED TITLE OF MY REPORT WILL BE:
Optimising construction projects through the application of project management principles: A case study of reclamation civil works at the Ahafo mine. SYNOPSIS OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The Ahafo mine is an operating mine in the portfolio of the US-based Newmont Mining Corporation, one of the largest gold mining companies in the world. The mine is enjoined by corporate and statutory requirements to rehabilitate areas disturbed through operations of the mine; which occurs on an annual basis as projects with defined objectives. The rehabilitation/reclamation is executed in two phases, comprising the civil works and revegetation phases, with the former being the focus of this study. This recurring project is executed utilizing a framework of project management to achieve three prime objectives; completion to schedule, scope and budget. All three prime goals are not consistently achieved, with the various elements in each stage of the project lifecycle not systematically implemented to the later with its resultant success. The study will seek to analyse the life cycle of the reclamation civil work project; identify the various bottlenecks at each stage impeding achievement of the objectives; propose remedial actions based on principles of project management and a system to ensure consistent application of the actions therein. Existing literature from various sources will be reviewed, however the main reference will be Lock, Dennis. Project Management (9th ed.) 2007. For this study, data will be gathered on various elements of the project impacting on the schedule, scope and budget over the period 2012 to 2014. The data will seek to corroborate the problem statement and ideally support the solutions to be identified.
