25/05/2016 - Day Thirty-One - Professional Placement - Berserker Street State

Tomorrow my mentor teacher is going to be absent from school due to professional
development. It has been decided that she will not be replaced by the LRT for the
day and that I will take the class by myself. I am excited to take the class for the day
and think that at this stage the only challenges that I may encounter is classroom
behaviour management. I think the students will try to test me without my mentor
teacher in a room near-by to see how far they can push. I am going to ensure that I
enforce all my classroom strategies that I have used so far and test to see what
works in this particular situation and what doesnt. I also am going to create a
positive learning environment with motivation strategies like stamps and spot ons for
good behaviour.
At parade this afternoon there was a demonstration from the Bfit program that is run
by teachers in the school. This entails students going to the stadium at 8:00am in the
morning and exercising to music in the stadium. I think that this is a great program to
run in schools and think it provides students on life-long skills on how to be fit and
healthy. Some of the students that participate in the program on a regular basis put
on a demonstration of what exercises and activities they do to the music they use. It
was great to see the rest of the school engaged and excited about this program. It
creates a positive outlook on being fit and healthy for the students.
