The Strengths of The Top High Schools in Thailand


Triam Udom Suksa, Suankularb Wittayalai, and Mahidol Wittayanusorn are the top
three famous high schools in Thailand because of their strong curriculum and high quality
screening procedure. The purpose of this research report was to find out the strengths of
Triam Udom Suksa, Suankularb Wittayalai, and Mahidol Wittayanusorn as the top three of
the most famous high schools in Thailand. The importance of this research report is to
provide information on how to choose the best high schools in Thailand. The pieces of
information found in this research report were based on five sources. First, the article called
Triam Udom Suksa School 70th Anniversary narrated the history of Triam Udom Suksa.
Next, SK website provided the history and the curriculum of Suankularb Wittayalai. Third,
MWITS website described the origin and the curriculum of Mahidol Wittayanusorn. Next, an
article in Dek-D websites showed the sequence of the most famous school and quality of
admission test. Eventually, the website, organized by Triam Udom Suksa, explained the
curriculum and the educational structure of Triam Udom Suksa.
Triam Udom Suksa
According to the article entitled Triam Udom Suksa School from the website of
Liquisearch narrated that Triam Udom Suksa found by National Education in AD 1936. This
establishment was administrated by the University Council of Chulalongkorn University and
provided precollegiate education in AD 1938. Hence, Triam Udom Suksa School became
known as University Preparatory School, Chulalongkorn University (Rong Rian Triam Udom
Suksa Haeng Chulalongkorn Maha Witthayalai). Mom Luang Pin Malakul, the head of the

universitys teacher-preparation programme and the first director of the school, supervised
from the school was constructed until the school ultimately achieved the goals. Triam Udom
Suksa is located in Chulalongkorn University where has been Matthayom Horwang Schools
area and the vicinity of the university. The school is actually the first co-education in
Thailand which opens in AD 1938 (Janehutthakarnkij, 2007).
Suankularb Wittayalai
The article entitled Background and Reputation of Suankularb Wittayalai from the
website of Suankularb Wittayalai stated that the founding of Suankularb Wittayalai involved
with his royal intention of King Chulalongkorn Rama V. Firstly, the school was located in
Phra Tamnak Suankularb in the Royal Palace and the school trained and taught students who
were especially royalties to be Kings guard regiment and serve the country. Tisavarakumarn
Damrong Rajanubhab, a son of King Mongkut Rama IV and the head of the bureau of guard
regiment, was the pioneer of the idea to build the school and informed the King subsequently.
Therefore, Phra Tamnak Suankularb School was found in AD1882 and educated students as
soldier. Afterwards, the school could not support many students, the school was moved to
outside of the palace which was the area of Wat Ratchaburana. The school is renamed which
is now known as Suankularb Wittayalai School. The school is the first all-boys school and
public school which inaugurated in AD 1884.
Mahidol Wittayanusorn
Reference to the article from the website of Mahidol Wittayanusorn School revealed
that Prince Mahidol Memorial Science School which is called Mahidol Wittayanusorn
(MWITS) is conducted by the government. The curriculum with a specialized intenseness
attained the Ministry of Educations desire. Wisdom Makes Man Pure is the MWITS motto
which inpires students in every age. MWITS makes students to become well-rounded and

able to succeed in science and technology. The school is a public school which opens in AD
1991.
Strength of Curriculum
The website of Triam Udom Suksa School had drawn attention to the fact that Triam
Udom Suksa (TU) follows the basic education core curriculum AD 2008 determined by the
Minitry of Education which students have to study eight standard courses which are Thai
language, mathematics, science, social studies, health and physical education, arts,
technology, and foreign language along with morality. TUs curriculum is improved by
making Triam Udom Suksa curriculum AD 2009 to be able to compare with international
curriculum. Accordingly, Triam Udom Suksa has two special courses and one subject as
follows; the programme which is to accumulate knowledge and skills in science,
mathematics, and language intensively, the course that supports to students capacities and
life skills, such as Wit-Com, Wit-Quality, etc., and IS which is the subject that students have
to learn by themselves to enhance their skills. Suankularb Wittayalai (SK) also follows the
basic education core curriculum AD 2008 and the curriculum entirely focuses on science and
includes IS subject as well. The educational structure is separated into Sci-Maths, Sci-French,
Sci-Chinese, moreover; there are six particular courses which are Gifted room, GifftedScience room, and Gifted-Maths room. In addition, SK offers many electives that students
have to choose for improve their skills and has various activities that students can do with
others, thus those activities can make the students be confident and sociable. Mahidol
Wittayanusorn (MWITS) has its own curriculum which covers all subjects specified by the
Ministry of Education and the curriculum shortens length of study duration. Its academic
course has diverse electives in science, maths, and technology-related subjects. MWITS
really supports students science projects and self-learning, and promotes knowledge.

MWITS has introduced a multitude of additional scientific subjects to maximize the potential
of students.
Screening Procedure
Generally, entrance examination of Triam Udom Suksa is objective test which covers
five subjects as follows; Mathematics, Science, Social studies, Thai language, and English
language. Suankularb Wittyalai examination covers two main subjects which are science and
mathematics and has two parts which are objective test and subjective test; moreover, science
part measures students english skills as well. Mahidol Wittayanusorn provides the subjects
examination which are mathematics and science and the test is divided into two section which
are objective and subjective. In MWITS admission, the examination has two rounds. First
phase is to test on generally. Then, five hundred of students who pass the first phase, they
must take the second phase which tests on aptitude and complex problem solving as the final
examination.
Conclusion
The research report aimed to find out the strengths of Triam Udom Suksa, Suankularb
Wittayalai, and Mahidol Wittayanusorn as the top three of the most famous high schools in
Thailand. The research concluded that there are many qualitative high schools but the three
schools which are chosen as the top three of the most popular high schools because of their
intensive screening examination and strong curriculum. Therefore, their students have to
study hard and be qualified. The researcher recommends to have further research on how
those schools provide lessons to students and make entrance examination.
