Outlook 2007
Outlook 2007 was available in retail stores at the
end of January 2007. Features that debuted in
Outlook 2007 include : Office Fluent "ribbon" user interface (though not for the main

window)
To-Do bar added to the shell UI that shows a snapshot of the user's
upcoming appointments and active tasks for better time and project
management, and provides navigation entry points into calendar
Changed calendar views that display the tasks due below each day on
the week view and supports overlaying multiple calendars.
Ability to publish calendars in Internet Calendar format to Microsoft
Office Online or to a WebDAV server.
Enhanced integration with Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server.

engine with Windows Desktop Search


Preview Handler extension for previewing email attachment

(including reading pane) without leaving Outlook


Ability to add a picture or company logo to a contact or

How to Configure Outlook


2007?
The first step is to turn on IMAP in your

Google Account
1. Log in here: https://gmail.com
username: pid@vt.edu, password: your
Google password
2. Click on the gear in the upper right
corner and choose settings
3. Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP

4. Choose Enable IMAP and click Save

Changes and you can log out of Gmail.


For Outlook 2007
Go to Tools -> Account Settings
Go to the File tab, click Account Settings
1. From the E-mail tab, click on New...
2. Select E-mail Account, and click Next
3. Select Manually configure settings or
additional server types, click Next.

Choose Internet E-mail, click Next


Fill out the information:
a. Your Name : Your_Name
b. E-mail Address : your_PID@vt.edu
c. Account Type : Choose IMAP
d. Incoming mail server : imap.gmail.com
e. Outgoing mail server
(SMTP):smtp.gmail.com
6. User name: your_PID@vt.edu
7. Password: your_Google_password

6. Click on the More Settings... Button
7. From the General tab, Give your account a name .
8. Click on the Outgoing Server tab and check: My

outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication


9. Click on the Advanced tab, change the following
settings:
a. Under Incoming server (IMAP), Use the following
type of encrypted connection: Choose SSL.

b. Under Outgoing server (SMTP), Use the


following type of encrypted connection: Choose
TLS
c. Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port
number (set to 25 by default) to 587

10. Click OK to close the Advanced settings
11. Click Next (Outlook will test the settings)
12. Click Finish

Your Google account will now show up on the

Folder List. Expand the new account, and


you will see the inbox. If you expand the
[Gmail] folder, you will see the Sent Mail,
Trash, and Spam folders.
