NBA FINALS

Cavaliers beat Warriors

in thrilling Game 7
Bee News Services
OAKLAND

ERIC RISBERG The Associated Press

Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry couldnt finish

their historic season as the Golden State Warriors lost Game 7 of the
NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

Lebron James denied Golden

States bid for a second straight
NBA title Sunday night and
brought Cleveland its first in
any major sport since 1964.
The Cavaliers held off the
Warriors 93-89 to become the
first team to come back from a
3-1 deficit in the Finals.
James had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Draymond Green had 32 points, 15

rebounds and nine assists for

the Warriors.
Golden State won an NBArecord 73 games in the regular
season, then fell short in the
playoffs. The Warriors went
scoreless in the last three minutes of Game 7. Regular season
MVP Stephen Curry struggled
with missed shots and turnovers.
James delivered on a promise
from two years ago to bring a
championship to his native
northeast Ohio. Clevelands last
was when the Browns won the

NFL title 52 years ago. It was

the first for the Cavs in franchise history.
Cleveland! This is for you!
James said in his postgame
interview before being announced as the Finals MVP.
For the talented and deep
Warriors, it was a heart-breaking end for a 2015-16 season
that started 24-0.
The 73 wins, Currys unanimous MVP and the memorable
comeback in the conference
finals will all be a footnote now
after the Warriors became the
first team ever to lose the finals
after taking a 3-1 series lead.
The Warriors will now be part
of a debate they hoped to avoid:
the best teams that failed to win
a championship.
