Since 2011, King of Kataloka and the people of Petuanan Negeri Kataloka have agreed an initiative to protect the water territory of Koon in Eastern Seram Regency, Maluku Province. The village elders also gave a mandate to the chief village of Grogos Which is closely located to Koon to conduct a routine monitoring. The Grogos chief village then instructed his people (often a group of 4 people) to monitor their area by patrolling. We usually go on a patrol 4 times a week. We go in the morning, afternoon, and late afternoon. Sometimes we even go on a patrol at night said Grogos chief village Udin Ruakat. If there are any violators found using destructive fishing gear, the patrol team would report the violators to the Grogos chief village who will then give an explanation about the importance of conserving the marine resources towards the livelihood of the whole fishermen in the area. In commemorating the World Ranger Day, we have to remember that protecting and other conservation efforts toward our sea are real action that we have to do collectively.
