Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are bright(est)

in the mid-infrared.

Type 1 AGN are mostly point-like while composite objects are

mostly extended.

Verified mid-infrared elongations are aligned

with the outflow cones.

The nuclear emission dominates the total mid-infrared emission

only at highest luminosities.

The mid-infrared emission strongly correlates with the X-ray

emission for all types of AGN.

How to publish this???

Publishing your data tables in CDS/ViZieR

should be standard. But one can do more

The Virtual Observatory

provides the standards and tools required to cope

with the flood of data in modern astronomy.

Advantages of publishing your data in the VO:

!

Long-livety of the data, independent of the author(s)

!

Easy access to science-ready data

!

Directly world-wide through a multitude of present and

future software and portals
!

Unified data formats

What have we learned?

!
!

MIR structures compact <20pc

significant dust in most objects
dust in the NLR, extending to
larger scales
nuclear dominates total MIR
emission only at highest
luminosities
strong MIRX-ray correlation
for all types of AGN
nuclear MIR emission a good
bolometric indicator

Use the VO both as author and as researcher!
