COLLEGE SUPERVISOR'S EVALUATION OF STUDENT TEACHER
Hope College
Education Department
Holland, Michigan
STUDENT: Rebekah Skinner
SUPERVISOR: Lyne Burkey
STUDENT TEACHING GRADE: A
COMMENTS:
Rebekah Skinner is a very intelligent, sincere new French and English teacher who has a
passion to teach both subjects and who has developed a variety of strenaths in the
classroom. She is very open to reflection and discussion of what has been successful and
unsuccessful in her lessons, and she consistently makes changes in order to improve. She
displays a real teachable spirit, is flexible, eager to leam, hard-working, dependable and
wiling to participate in whatever ways she can. Her commitment to both of her subjects is
evidenced by her excelient writing skills and voracious reading and by her willingness to live
in France in order to improve her mastery of the language and culture. Rebekah worked
very successfully with two very different coordinating teachers, in two different subjects, and
with a variety of age levels and challenges, often with more than one level of French in the
same classroom.
In both English and French classes Rebekah has learned to pace herself and change
activities frequently. She understands the importance of organization and daily preparation,
has developed varied strategies to deal with discipline issues, works to provide oral,
written, reading and listening practice in each lesson, and has devised creative ideas to
motivate students. Her classroom procedures are consistent and the students respect her
management style. She is relaxed with her classes, polite, warm and friendly, yet she is.
Quietly firm, with a droll sense of humor and a ready smile. Her students understand that her
expectations of them are high, both scholastically and behaviorally. She tries to reach
ouside the dlassroom to reinforce leaming and can Ink ideas wel and segue nicely from one
activity to another. She works hard to relate the daily lesson to some real aspect of her
students’ lives, so they can see connections between what they are learning and how thet
wil mpact their futures.
Rebekah brings maturity and professional behavior and decision-making to education. She
is willing to increase her knowledge in her fields, displays confidence and an upbeat attitude,
and demonstrates a strong work ethic. She is eager to participate in new educational
experiences, takes constrlictive criticism gracefully, and establishes relationships with peers
and students easly. | believe Rebekah wil be an excellent action to any facuty and
highly recommend her.
