My mission as a School Counselor is to empower all students to meet their fullest potential. "Busara" is Swahili for "wisdom," as this was the message conveyed to AA young males. Through this inspiration, I founded and sponsored the first successful AA male leadership group.

I am writing to express my interest in the available School Counselor position. My professional, academic, and personal development has allowed me to become a highlyqualified candidate for the position. My mission as a school counselor is to create a comprehensive program that empowers all students to challenge themselves to meet their fullest potential. I believe a school counseling program should address the academic, career, and social/emotional developmental needs of students. This is best achieved with the involvement of parents, families, staff, and community members that are engaged in the learning process. I am committed to upholding the highest ethical and legal standards, as well as participating in professional development to keep up to date with the best practices in school counseling. My most recent professional experience that I treasure would be my involvement in the Busara Black Male Summit. Busara is Swahili for wisdom, as this was the message that was conveyed to African-American (AA) young males from all over South Bend, Indiana. The South Bend Tribune had coined our event as a first-ever event in the country. We essentially brought together AA males from area high schools and made a connection with inspirational community leaders to deliver a message to the group. The message inspired the males to change their current mindset and enlightened them into a making positive choices moving forward. It was through this inspiration that I founded and sponsored the first successful AA male leadership group at Adams High School, along with the enthusiastic approval and support of our school building and central administration. Currently, we are organizing the first-ever John Adams High School 3on-3 March Madness Fundraiser. The expected large proceeds will benefit local and school organizations. Lastly, our group has been such a success, that we received a large grant that I co-authored to assist in our efforts of moving the group forward.
