Singapores Movie Milestone 7 Letters

7 local Filmmakers show their love for Singapore through SG50 film,
7letters.
7 Letters, a film made to commemorate SG50, premiered at the
Capitol Theatre on 24 July, marking a significant milestone for the
Singapore movie industry.
The film is the first of its kind. It is the first movie to combine seven
short films, from seven different directors into one.
Its seven directors, Boo Junfeng, Eric Khoo, K Rajagopal, Jack Neo,
Tan Pin Pin, Royston Tan, and Kelvin Tong were all approached
separately to direct their parts in the film and apart from Jack Neo,
most of them were relative newcomers on the directing scene.
The project began when the film community was asked how they
wanted to celebrate SG5O. Mr Royston Tan said that during the
discussions, he commented that they should all make a short film
about it and this eventually led to 7 Letters.
Mr Robert Gilby, Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company
South East Asia, said that 7 Letters had an incredible concept.
He goes on to elaborate, it think the idea of getting the best
Singaporean filmmakers to come together and make a film to
celebrate SG50 and say thank you to Singapore is incredible
The film is also the first of its kind in terms of sheer number of
people involved. Each individual directors teams did each of the
seven segments of the film. Royston Tan said, If we count all the
credits, therell be seven hundred names. The poster has been
designed by the Singapore president design award winner Larry Peh.
There are also different musical groups involved, Rahimah Rahim,
serene Koong, and many other surprises.
Explaining the decision to make such a movie, Mr Tan said, the
filmmakers wanted to come together and celebrate the spirit of
giving and, through this film, we want to widen the platform of 7
Letters, not just as a film with entertainment, but also reach out to
people in need.
In line with this desire, the proceeds from the film will all be donated
to seven different beneficiaries.

Many at the event also agree that the movie has created a
springboard from which the Singapore movie industry can build
upon.
In conclusion, Mr Gabriel Lim, Chief Executive Officer of the Media
Development Authority of Singapore said about the film: It showed
the filmmaking ability of our directors and producers, and I think it
speaks very well of the quality of our talent and the potential of our
film industry.
