STATISTICS

Statistics is a branch of science that deals with collection, organization,


tabulation and interpretation of numerical facts or data (information).
EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS
Educational statistics has to do with the collection, organization, tabulation and
interpretation of educational data (information).
Sources of educational statistics
1. NCES: - This is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing
data related to education.
2. IPEDS (The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System): This is
the data center for data on colleges and universities.
3. Institute of International Education: These are open doors data on
international students studying in the United States.
CRIMINAL STATISTICS
Criminal statistics has to do with the collection, organization, tabulation and
interpretation of criminal data (information).
Sources of criminal statistics
1. UCR (Uniform Crime Reports): this is one of the sources of crime
statistics commonly used in the United States. It is the FBIs widely used
system for recording crimes and making policy decisions.
2. NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System): This is used to
examine rates of drugs sales and distribution. It is also use to examine the
factors that influence police decisions to make arrests in domestic
violence incidents.

AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS
Agricultural statistics has to do with the collection, organization, tabulation and
interpretation of agricultural data (information).
Sources of agricultural statistics
1. NASS (National Agricultural Statistics Service): This conducts hundreds
of surveys every year and prepares reports covering virtually every aspect
of US agriculture.
2. WAOB (World Agricultural Outlook Board): This maintains the monthly
world agricultural supply and demand estimates report.
3. GATS (Global Agricultural Trade System): These are data concerning
foreign agricultural trade which includes; international agriculture, fish,
forest, and textile products trade statistics from 1989 to present.
