The young Scientist

We have been following the butterfly life cycle in
the centre for the second year and Zaina was one
of those who were fascinated with this live action.
Her mum sent me a video clip one day where
Zaina had drawn the whole cycle at home and
explained to her mum the whole process. One
morning I entered the over two room to observe children in
action and noticed that Zaina & Lujain were fully engaged in
writing durng the school readiness session. Shortly after that
Zaina moved to the writing corner followed by Lujain. Zaina was
fully engaged in inventive writing and drawing in the writing
corner with Lujain sitting besides her also engaged in writing.
Every time Zaina will stop a little bit and explain to Lujain what
she did. I stood there overhearing their conversation and Zaina
was drawing the butterfly life cycle and labelling the different
stages and telling Lujain about each stage (egg, caterpillar,
chrysalis, Butterfly). Lujain was interested in drawing the
butterfly only but was responding to Zainas comments and
agreeing to stages of development. Zaina wanted Lujain to draw
the cycle and showed her the one displayed on the wall by the
staff but Lujain was determined to colour her butterfly. It is very
interesting to hear the conversation and to see Lujain more
vocal and having an opinion of her own. Her perseverance ,
creativity and interest in completing her work is to be
commended ma sha Allah . Zaina saw me observing so she came
to me complaining that Lujain is not drawing the life cycle of the
butterfly. I told her that it should be fine and she wants to colour
her butterfly now but I am sure she knows the life cycle. Then I
started discussing the life cycle with both of them and Lujain
impressed me too with her knowledge and verbal conversation.
Zaina requested to see her pictures that I took and she chose the
one to go in the story that I will write. Zaina always impresses me
with her positive attitude towards learning ma sha Allah and the
way of expressing her points of views with confidence. Soon she
will be off to school and I am sure she will shine in sha Allah.
