The integration of literacy into science and social studies support

the teaching of science and social studies content by enhancing the


students content knowledge (science and social studies) while
strengthening the students reading and writing skills. Using literacy
strategies when reading, speaking, or writing about science and social
studies allows students to be engaged about topics that they are
interested in while teaching the state standards. In order to keep
students engaged teachers must create think alouds, think pair share
and teach students to make connections and predictions. Students
should not be expected to read an informational text and automatically
comprehend what they read therefore strategies to keep students
engaged are key.
