Imperfections less than half the depth of the serrations shall not be considered cause for rejection. Imperfections in the flange facing finish shall not exceed the dimensions shown in Table 3.

a) Criteria #1: Imperfections less than half the depth of the
serrations shall not be considered cause for rejection
b) Criteria #2 and #3: Imperfections in the flange facing finish shall not exceed the dimensions shown in Table 3 For example, lets assume that the flange size is 12: 1) According to the above points a) and b), the Inspector shall check and measure the depth and radial length of the imperfections in the flange faces. 2) Analyze criteria #1: 2.1) If the depth of the imperfection is not deeper than half the depth of the serration, then the imperfection is acceptable. Otherwise, 2.2) If the depth of the imperfection is deeper than half the depth of the serration then proceed with criteria #2 and #3: 3) Analyze criteria #2: 3.1) If the radial length of that imperfection in the flange is smaller than 8 mm and not deeper than the serration, then the imperfection is acceptable. 3.2) If the radial length of that imperfection in the flange is larger than 8 mm and more than half the depth of the serrations, then the imperfection shall be rejected. 4) Analyze criteria #3: 4.1) If the depth of that imperfection in the flange is deeper than the serration and radial length smaller than 4 mm, then the imperfection is acceptable. 4.2) If the depth of that imperfection in the flange is deeper than the serration and radial length larger than 4 mm, then the imperfection is not acceptable and the flange shall be resurfaced or replaced.
