The effect ‘chunking’ has on short-term

memory

Thank you for taking part in the experiment.

The nature of this experiment was to assess the changes in a person’s
short-term memory recall when presented with a group of randomly
placed words, and a group of words ‘chunked’ together in accordance
to their relation with one another ie ‘ car lorry bike plane boat'.
This comparison was carried out by handing you out two sheets of
paper, one with randomly aligned words, and another with chunked
words. You were giving the exact same time to memorise both papers
and asked to copy down as many words as you could remember.
All information gathered during this experiment will be held securely
and confidentially and all results produced will be anonymous. All
participants who have taken part in this experiment have the right to
withdraw their contribution up to the point that it is made anonymous.
