Assessment Philosophy

Assessment involves systematically collecting information about my students learning

and progress, and using this information to create a continuing cycle of improved teaching and
learning. As a teacher, I must appreciate the fact that all of my students are different. I will use
both summative and formative assessments so diverse learning opportunities can be made
available to my students with different learning style preferences. I believe that I must
incorporate different assessments to compare how my students do on a regular day and how
effective my teaching is for my class. Assessment requires that I analyze my existing teaching
practices and make instructional changes based on the outcome. Finally, classroom based
assessments are ongoing processes that I will modify as my instructional practices, learning
objectives, curriculum, and my students change.
