Event Jemma Stentiford, a graduating senior from Eastlake High and Andres Perez, a
graduating senior from Montgomery High, will be surprised with a 2000 Ford
Mustang and a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse for having perfect attendance this year.
Jemma and Andres’ names were among 51 names of Sweetwater District seniors
who have had perfect attendance for one or more of the last three years.
Background Faced with budget cuts, the Sweetwater Union High School District launched an
attendance incentive marketing campaign three years ago. The prizes have included
laptop computers, video cameras, iPods and Playstation consoles. Last year the
district gave away one car to a senior with perfect attendance.
This year the rewards were increased to include a car donated by JC Towing in
Chula Vista. The cars, a 2000 Ford Mustang and a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse, were
taken to the auto technology shops at Southwest High and Bonita Vista High, where
students renovated the cars.
The rewards for this year’s attendance campaign were made possible through
corporate donations from JC Towing, Mission Federal Credit Union, Cox
Communications and several other donors.
