Rockets 10 Name Brooks VanDeBurg

A. How far will the Rocket go if I change the size of the fins
B. If I make the fins bigger, then it wont go as far because the aerodynamics wont be as
good
C.
Distance it Goes Depends on Size of Fins
Size of fin (in) Distance it goes Average
Distance
Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3
6x4(control) 51 48 48 49
5x3.3 48 52 66 55.3
4x2.6 57 57 60 58
3x2 36 54 36 42

D. controlled variables: # of fins, angle or trajectory, amount or water in rocket, bottles,

launch pressure
E. materials needed: 2 bottles, cardboard, tape, water, launcher
F. 1. tape small bottle to big bottle, bottom to bottom
2. tape the 3, 6x4 inch, right
triangle, fins on the big bottle

3. put launcher at 45 degrees

4. put 250ml in big bottle and 100 in
small bottle
5. put the rocket on the launcher
6. wait for it to get to 75 psi
7. launch the rocket
9. measure how far it went
10. record your data
11. repeat steps 4-10 2 more times
12. change the fin size
13. repeat steps 4-12 2 more times

G. Graph your data on Excel. (Use the graphing guidelines.)

H. conclusion.

My data partially supports my hypothesis because when there was bigger wings it didnt go as
far but then when they got a little smaller it went further. But if I made them to small the it
didn't go as far again. If I did this project again I would make the rocket neater so it would fly
better and the data would be better.
