In this document you will find the information on the causes of water pollution.

WHAT IS THE ACTUAL CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION?

Water pollution actually emanates from the carelessness of the man kind. If you can look
at the developments that people came up with (e.g. sewerage systems, industrial places)
to name but a few, they have a positive impact on our lives for the fact that we are now
leaving a better life with good resources but they left us with unhealthy environment.

Where there is something good you will realize that there is always a disadvantage. The
carelessness of mankind came up like this:

We developed industrial places to improve our lives, but we were not aware of the enemy
we are bringing to ourselves and the environment as a whole. Industry is the huge source
of water pollution. It has pollutants which are very dangerous to people and the
environment. There are heavy metals from the industries which accumulate in our lakes
and rivers and they become toxic to the fish and marine life and us who are eating them.

DEHYDRATED CHILD FROM CHOLERA

The other water pollution is caused by the

microbial pollutants from sewerage deposits which can cause infectious diseases like
cholera and typhoid fever. We turn to think that sewerage systems have made our
environment clean but now it affect us. These diseases can infect the aquatic life and
terrestrial life through drinking water. We can end up with infant mortality.
Suspended particles in freshwater reduces the quality of water for humans and aquatic
life. We dump our waste anywhere but where does it finally go? These suspended
particles reduce the amount of sunlight penetrating water and result in disruption of
photosynthetic plants and micro-organisms.

We need fertile soil in order to for us to plough enough food for our ever increasing
population. The organic matter and nutrient cause an increase in aerobic algae and
deplete the amount of oxygen in water column and this cause suffocation of fish and
other aquatic organisms.

Factories give out gases which have Sulfate particles which causes acid rain. Our rivers
and lakes are now contaminated and this is harmful to marine life and can result in
mortality.

We must really be aware of how we distinct ourselves from our environment by

trying to improve our lives.
