Democrat Republican

Candidate Michael Arcuri Ray Meier

Funds On Hand $381,000 $571,000
Recent Poll 40% 36%
Sherwood Boehlert, one of the House’s most moderate Republicans, is departing the seat he has held for 12 terms, setting
up a very competitive contest to replace him in a region that is gradually moving away from the GOP. Michael Arcuri and
Ray Meier are facing in off in this heated contest. The Cook Political Report ranks this race a “Toss-Up.”

The District
In the 11 counties of the 24th District, Bush
won a narrow re-election in 2004. This year an
expected strong showing by Hillary Clinton
and Eliot Spitzer is likely to aid candidates in
upstate New York. The 24th is home to Utica,
Cortland and Oneonta as well as the suburbs of
Syracuse. Republicans outnumber Democrats
somewhat in the district.

About Michael Arcuri

Elected four times as Oneida County D.A.,
Arcuri is familiar to many of the district’s
residents as an effective and energetic
prosecutor. He intends to maintain Boehlert’s
support of stem cell research, and he has
advocated an exit strategy in Iraq. He supports
a minimum wage increase, better access to health care, and progressive energy policies. In addition to the Democratic
Party, Arcuri has been endorsed by the Independence Party. www.arcuriforcongress.com

About Ray Meier

State Sen. Ray Meier has received extensive support from the national GOP establishment in his race to succeed Boehlert.
He is well to the right of the incumbent, winning the endorsement of the state Conservative Party, whose chair praised
Meier for being in line with “the true conservative philosophy.” www.raymeierforcongress.com

Fundraising and Polling

The candidates are closely matched in fundraising. Meier has brought in $791,000 and has $571,000 on hand. Arcuri has
raised $693,000 and has $381,000 remaining.

Arcuri’s campaign released an August internal poll giving him a 40-36 advantage.
