Reading Questions
For next week you’re reading I Kings 14 to II Kings 6.
Answer the following:
• What is the named used for the Northern
kingdom? The Southern Kingdom?
• Jehu the prophet curses what king’s line? How
does this end up happening? (I Kings 16)
• What king is Elijah set against? (I Kings 18)
• Why does Elijah go and live in a cave? (I Kings 19)
• How does Ahab get Naboth’s vineyard? (I Kings
21)?
• Who is taken up to heaven, Elijah or Elisha? (II
Kings 2)
• Who is Gehazi? (II Kings 4)
• What is the cure for leprosy in Naaman’s case? (II
Kings 5)
Elijah and Elisha, differences
Elijah and Elisha shared many things in common,
including the first 3 letters of their rhyming names. For
this reason, it is a very common mistake to confuse
Elisha for Elijah and vice versa. However, there are
differences in the two men that might help you
differentiate them:
• Remember that “j” comes before “s” in the
alphabet and you’ll remember that Eli-J-ah came
before Eli-S-ha
• Upbringing – Elijah came from the farmland of
Gilead, so he was a rustic individual. Elisha
seems to be a rich boy from Abel Meholah who
had 12 oxen to plow.
• Personality – Elijah was almost bi-polar in his
portrayals. He seems to swing from mood to
mood, while Elisha seems to be much more even
keeled (except maybe for that bear incident).
• Ministry length – Elisha’s ministry seemed to last
almost twice as long as his processor Elijah
• Miracles – Possibly due to the longer ministry,
Elisha performed almost twice as many recorded
miracles as his teacher, Elijah.
• Commoners vs. royalty – Elijah was much more of
a court prophet dealing with kings and queens,
while Elisha dealt more with commoners and
foreigners

Keeping these two prophets separate in your mind may

be tough, but hopefully these ideas helped you to
differentiate them a little so that you can focus on how
God is using each of them individually.
Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
