PLOT:

Dr Treves, a doctor at the London Hospital, discovers

Merrick on a showcase. He’s so deformed that he must wear
a hood and cape when there are people near. He paid to
bring him to the London Hospital so that he can examine him. The nurses are horrified by
Merrick's appearance, so Treves places him in a dark room, lonely.

Some months later Dr Treves wrote to the “Times” saying if the people could help Merrick with
money to build him a house, because he couldn’t stay anymore time in the hospital. He met
many important people, like the London’s Queen. Now, he lived in his new house and he liked
reading very much.

But, one day, he died in his bed. His broke his neck because his head was very heavy.

PERSONAL OPINION: The Elephant Man is an excellent book that reminds viewers not to judge
people on their initial impressions but I prefer the film. It’s a very sad book but really it’s very
good, and the vocabulary is very easy if you are learning English.
