J. R. R.

Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (3 January 1892 – 2
September 1973) was an English writer, poet,
philologist, and university professor, best
known as the author of the classic high fantasy
works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and
The Silmarillion.

Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon at

Oxford from 1925 to 1945, and Merton
Professor of English Language and Literature
from 1945 to 1959. He was a close friend of Clive
Staples Lewis(The Chronicles of Narnia).
After his death, Tolkien's son, Christopher,
published a series of works based on his
father's extensive notes and unpublished
manuscripts, including The Silmarillion.
The Hobbit

Is an award-winning fantasy novel and children's

book, written in the tradition of the fairy tale. A
sequel was requested by his publishers, and as
work on the The Lord of the Rings progressed,
Tolkien made accommodations for it in one
chapter of The Hobbit.
The Lord of the Rings
The request to work on a sequel of the hobbit
prompted Tolkien to begin what would become
his most famous work: the epic three-volume
novel The Lord of the Rings (published 1954–
55). Tolkien spent more than ten years writing
the primary narrative and appendices for The
Lord of the Rings.

The King
The King beneath the mountains,

The King of carven stone,

The lord of silver fountains,
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,

His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden,
To songs of yore re-sung.

The woods shall wave on mountains,

And grass beneath the sun;
His wealth shall flow in fountains,
And the rivers golden run.

The streams shall run in gladness,

The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness,
At the Mountain-king's return.
