1. I was taken aback to see a menacing sneer on my good friend’s face.

2. The motor boat skimmed over the calm waters of the lake, racing towards the island.

3. The peace in the garden was suddenly shattered by a bloodcurdling scream.

4. Brandishing a toy pistol, the robber calmly told the bank teller to hand over the money.

5. After he was accused of stealing, he ranted and raved, oblivious to the curious stares of
passers-by.

6. He was exasperated by the continuous crying of the child.

7. Incredibly, he was still alive although he was stabbed in the chest.

8. Sam threw a punch at me but I skilfully dodged it.

9. His dishevelled hair fell over his face and he reeked of alcohol.

10. Startled, the policeman staggered backwards as the unleashed dog leapt at him.

I leapt to my feet and started to run, faster than I had ever run in my life. My feet

skimmed over the rough grass. My heart was pounding but I dared not stop. Suddenly a huge

hand was clamped over my mouth. I struggled and found myself in the grip of a burly stranger.

He was incredibly strong and I was paralysed with terror. I could not even scream.
