Reading Questions
For next week you’re reading Psalms 3 to 10. Answer
the following:
• Now that you know the story of Absalom, does
Psalm 3 have deeper meaning?
• What is the psalmist to do while he waits for the
Lord in 4?
• The psalmist says he is only able to enter the
temple through what in 5?
• What reason does the psalmist give God for
delivering his life in 6?
• Even when unsure he sinned in 7, what does
David do?
• 8 is the psalm reading for Trinity Sunday, why do
you think it was chosen?
• What “wonderful deeds” does David recount in 9?
• How does the psalmist want the wicked person to
be punished in 10?
David’s share of the psalms
When someone says, “who wrote the psalms?” If the
answer isn’t accompanied by a sheepish look and a
shrug, most people will say “David”. While that’s not
entirely true, you can see where some people would get
that idea. David did write a lion’s share of the psalms.

Traditionally, David is considered to have written the

following psalms:
• 3-9
• 11-32
• 34- 41
• 51-66
• 68-70
• 86
• 101
• 103
• 108-110
• 122
• 124
• 131
• 138-145

If you add them up, that’s 73 out of the 150 psalms, or

just under half of the psalms that we have collected. No
wonder people think David wrote them all! (The Holy
Spirit, however, DID write them all and the rest of the
Bible through writers like David.)
Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
