Predisposing Factors
Age <18 >35y/o
Gravidity
Low socioeconomic factors
Multiple pregnancies
Medical conditions (heart
disease, DM, HPN)
Screening Procedure
Roll over test: done at 28-32 weeks
 Lateralrecumbent position for 15
mins until BP stabilizes
 Then roll over to supine position
 Bp taken 1min and 5mins after
having rolled over
 Increase in 30 mmHg, 15mmHg

Prone to PIH
Warning Signs:
Rapid weight gain; 4-5 in
a single week
Increase in BP
Protein in Urine
Severe headaches
Blurry Vision / double
vision
Seeing spots on eyes
Severe pain over
stomach, under the ribs
Decreased amount of
urine
Vomiting of blood
Excessive swelling of
extremities
Blood in urine
Rapid heart beat
Dizziness
Excessive nausea
Excessive vomiting
Ringing or buzzing
sound in ears
Fever
Sudden blindness
