Community Initiative

As you are aware several local residents have been looking at local governance issues. The Town of
Golden has prepared a Staff Report, dated June 15 ,2010, focussed on a District Municipality option,
which indicates that at present no applications for substantial boundary extensions are being accepted.
New applications would begin in early 2012 and take at least two years to complete.

In light of the Town’s response and as an interim step we would like to suggest the following for your
consideration and discussion by the CSRD Board of Directors;

 CSRD Board of Directors set up a consultation process to work toward establishing an advisory
committee to provide input on local governance issues to the electoral A director. This
committee could be comprised of rural residents (at least two), another CSRD electoral area
director, Town of Golden CSRD Board member, and possibly senior staff representatives from
the Town of Golden and the CSRD. We would like to see the advisory committee established by
October 15, 2010.
 CSRD Board of Directors evaluate electoral boundary arrangements to provide for two electoral
A directors for the next election cycle. This evaluation to be part of the RDEK proposal review
and also to consider the impact of a District Municipality governance model post November
2011.
 CSRD Board of Directors establish an administrative office and staff in the Town of Golden as
soon as possible.

The attached list contains the names of local residents who are in general agreement with the key points
of this letter.
