What is this all about?!


What is ‘Social’ recruitment?!

 Social recruitment is to optimally engage in the


social networks and various similar fora, with the
objective of fulfilling the hiring needs.

 These are either needs of the customer


organization or the individual recruitment
specialist!

 The primary goal of social engagement in


recruitment, is to stay connected with the
target audience – could be the candidate, the
appropriate professional network, and build and
appropriate employer brand.
How does this work?!
(Does it work in a whiff?!)
 “Social recruitment” as a term by itself is a
misnomer!
 It makes one feel that “social recruitment” is a
process that helps one close mandates on hand
swiftly.

 NOTHING CAN BE FAR FROM TRUTH.

 To do ‘social recruitment’, as a recruitment


professional, you need to create that amount of
“TRUST” in you as a good and honest recruiter.

 A honest recruiter – whose goals are to create


value for the customer and the candidate.

 Social recruitment can NEVER be just


‘transactional’
 It is at best a ‘strategic’ engagement, with
a clear long-term horizon in mind.
 Social recruitment is a process by
itself.
 It takes tremendous amount of time,
efforts, and an understanding of the
social media…. That never can happen in a
whiff.
 Social recruitment works well, if you
stay engaged in the social
networks/media, with a long term and
honest engagement strategy.
How is this done?
(Can I be a good “social recruiter”)
 A good “social recruiter” stays engaged on a
consistent and continual basis in the relevant
social media… Call it web2.0
 The engagement is all about offering views in the
domain, giving your insights, speaking of trends in
hiring across sectors, contemporary practices, and
so on!
 In a way, the best a ‘recruitment pro’ can do, is to
create a NICHE for him/her in the space, and
build on that.

 Finding and building on this niche is the


biggest determinant of your success as a
social recruiter!

 Each recruiter has a unique need. So craft your


own strategy – based on your long term goals….
The ‘how’ of being Social?
 The list or space in which you can engage
is endless, and as dynamic as it can get….
By the minute
 Try and be in the most important of the
clutter (do your own research pls!)
 Some of these could be Linkedin, Facebook,
Twitter, Youtube, Blogger, Wordpress…
explore, explore…..this can be an
endless/exhaustive list – tweak it as per your
needs.
 Each recruiter has a unique need. So
craft your own strategy – based on your
long term goals….
Keys to stay engaged!

 Sustained efforts – continuous,
consistent, constructive (call it the
3C’s)
 Work on your own domain
expertise, day in and day out –
your credibility is the key
determinant of your long term
success.
 Strategic is the key word –
transaction is a subsequent gain – a
by product.
 Stay engaged, now, always!
The key challenge?!
(Wasn’t recruitment always Social)
 Recruitment was always and will be
always about being engaged socially. No
two ways about it.
 Social recruitment – is just optimal
utility of technology (social media) – to
create a better engagement/higher
visibility/widespread credibility!)
 The challenge is to remain engaged.
And the final word!

 Social recruitment is just


not a low hanging fruit –
don’t get to it if you are
worried about today…
 Its about being a
marathon winner, not the
sprinter!
