A Philippine Myth

A myth… A Cebuano Myth…

about:
Danag

• 'Danag' is a very old Visayan (Cebuano) word

that means 'image/silhouette in the dark'. But
our farmhands said these beings move as 'fast as
the blink of an eye'.
• A beautiful and kind demon
• Envied by Lihangin as he was close to
Lidagat’s heart.
• Bad-mouthed and blamed by Lihangin for the
destruction of Cebuano’s kamote plants.
• Kaptan, ordered the Danag to restore the
kamote fields of the Cebuanos.
• Helped the humans in planting kamote, UNTIL,
• A woman cut her finger.
• The Danag rushed to the woman. And instead
of helping her, he was overcome by this weird
and uncontrollable thirst that he sucked the
blood from the woman’s wound until she died.
• Kaptan got very mad at the
Danag and punished him, to
the face and wings of a real
demon.
