The definition of Management Science is an approach to decision making on the scientific method
which use quantitative analysis. There are two names that are widely known which are similar to
management science. They are operations research and decision science. Frederic W.Taylor was the person
who initiated the scientific management revolution of the early 1900s.

Before we make the decision, we need to know what the problem that arise. Thus, we need to know
the step to solving the problem. Problem solving can be defined as the process of identifying the actual and
the desired state and taking an action to know the difference. At the below are the seven step in problem
solving which these steps have relationship in order to do the decision making. First five steps are associated
to make the decision. The steps are :

1. Identify and define the problem

2. Determine the set of alternative solutions
Decision 3. Determine the criteria Problem
Making Solving
4. Evaluate the alternatives
5. Choose an alternative
6. Implement the decision
Decision 7. Evaluate the result

In decision making, the managers can make with two basic forms : qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative is based on the managers feel for the problem and the experience. However, quantitative is use
when the manager have face same problem with the previous. When using this approach, an analyst will
concentrate on the quantitative facts or data that associated with the problem and develop mathematical
expression that describes the objectives, constraints and other relationships that exist in the problem.

In addition, quantitative approach is important due to several reasons. First, the problem is complex
and manager cannot solve it in good solution. Next, the problem is important, which include money for
instance as well as the problem is new because manager did not have experience about it. Lastly, the
problem is repetitive, so manager can save the cost.
