Dissemination of Knowledge
Frontiers Research Foundation Global program aims to promote equal opportunity to seek, create, share,
and use knowledge that is generated by public, philanthropic and foundation funds.
In all societies, the individual contributes to the generation of knowledge and, therefore, it is every person’s right
- not a privilege - to have unrestricted access.
The program is to change the current publishing system, which severely restricts research knowledge
worldwide, handicaps developing nations in the race for innovation, and blocks the buildup of intellectual
capital that underpins knowledge societies. Frontiers pioneered it’s new open access publishing model
and service-oriented internet platform in the field of neuroscience. Within one and a half years, Frontiers
in Neuroscience became the world’s largest publisher of neuroscience research articles, publishing at a rate
of over 1,200 articles per year, edited by over 2,500 of the world’s top researchers in 40 countries, and read
by over 150,000 neuroscience readers from over 120 countries. Frontiers now aims to bring this novel, powerful
and enabling publishing model to all of academia by the end of 2010.
Frontiers also developed an Open Access Advocacy community website named Friends of Frontiersin order
to build a community network around the concept of equal opportunity research publishing and which mission is
in alignment with the pioneering initiatives of the Open Access movement:
the Budapest Open Access Initiative,
the Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing,
the Berlin Declaration of Open Access to Knowledge in the Science and Humanities.
