Community Health Nursing

 Is a synthesis of nursing and public health


practices applied to the promotion of the client’s
optimum level of functioning and preserving the
health of the population.
 A specialized field of nursing hat combines the
skills of nursing, public health and some phases of
social assistance and functions as part of the total
public health program for the promotion of health, the
improvement of the conditions in the social and
physical environment, rehabilitation of the illness and
disability.
Advantages of Public Health
Nursing
 Gives the health worker a vivid picture of over all
health status of the community.
 The focus of care is from the individual to the family
and the community.
 The nurses see the totality and health aspects of the
community.
 The nurses appreciate then the role in nation building.
 Enables the community to utilize organization inside
and out side.
 Individuals, families and communities tend to assume
their health responsibility.
 The concept of general nursing care is practiced well.
Disadvantages of Public Health
Nursing
 Cases are hazardous and the proper
universal precaution is not properly
practiced.
 Work hours are long and not fixed
 Technological awareness is not practiced or
delayed in PHN.
 Not all health workers are enjoying and
appreciating the wonderful world of CHN.
 Different places often have different
practice.
Qualities of a Good PH Nurse
 Knowledgeable
 Knows what to expect in everyday situation.
 Skillful
 Basic nursing and carrying skills are utilized in
public health.
 With the Right Attitude
 Good attitude towards work and co-workers
 Good Judgement
 In community nursing, there is no immediate
supervision soothe right reaction toward certain
situation is needed.
