The Cook’s Chronicle

August, 2010

Dear Friends & Family,

It’s hard to believe that we are already one year into our fourth term here in
Recife! We left Alex behind in Michigan last July for college. He is doing well
this summer with two part-time jobs, but is anxious to get back to classes this
fall. He plans to switch to a major in computer science. Hopefully, we will see
him here in Brazil for Christmas break.
Our “winter” camp season
full -- full of campers, full of
activity and full of blessings. We praise God for
seven campers from Junior week and five campers from
Teen week that placed their faith in Jesus Christ.
We had the privilege of hosting a team from Forest
Hills Baptist Church for two weeks of the season.
Their testimonies, work projects and interaction with
Brazilians have left a lasting impression on
campers and staff alike. We are so grateful for their
labor of love. We finally took the plunge this season
and launched our Adventure Week. This week
is designed to teach our campers to grow in grace
before God and man using our jungle as the scenario for
learning activities. They enjoyed sleeping in tents, kayaking, paintball, high ropes and survival skills
activities. The next six months at Camp Paradise will be filled with projects to better accommodate our
growing numbers. We will soon be posting a projects list for those interested in sending a team or helping
financially.

Kelly returns to home schooling the girls this week. Tricia will be a high school freshman and Dani is now
our newest junior higher. Tricia is enjoying her new steel string guitar which she has affectionately named,
“Johnny”. Dani keeps improving on her skills at the piano and in gymnastics.

Pray for Dan this semester as he will be teaching the Good Soil course in several cities. We have just
received the second edition of the book, The Story of Hope, with all of the new images. Dan will be
teaching in São Paulo and Recife this month. Next month, the seminar will be taught in Natal.

Thank you all for your faithful prayers and support on our behalf.

For the sake of the call, Dan & Kelly Cook
