Narrative Writing

We are learning how to write a narrative story.


The Structure of a Narrative

Orientation

Complication

Resolution
Orientation
This sets the scene, creating a visual
picture of the setting, atmosphere and
time of the story.  Characters are
introduced and clues are set in place for
the coming complication.
Complication
This is where a problem or complication
occurs that affects the setting, time or
characters.
Resolution
The problem is solved and the story ends.
In a narrative there may also be a
moral/coda/evaluative ending…

 This is a key message or moral for the reader to discover after


reading. E.g. The moral of the story is…….
