“Silverthorn Fire Near Stevensville”

August 22, 2010 Hamilton, MT – Two helicopters dropping water buckets, seven firefighters,
and two engines are currently on scene of the Silverthorn fire. This fire is approximately 3
miles southwest of Stevensville, MT and is located in the Silverthorn Creek drainage. At this
time, the fire is one acre in size.

The Silverthorn fire is believed to be caused by lightning. It was spotted across the valley
around 6:00 by a Stevensville Ranger District fire engine returning from assisting the Alder
Creek fire. The Alder Creek fire, east of Stevensville and west of Rock Creek, is
approximately 300 acres. The Lolo National Forest reports 9 smokejumpers on scene with
crews ordered to assist in their efforts.
