Heaven and Hell: What’s it all about?

(Session 2)
Heaven or some form thereof, exists in every religion. Hell does not.

If making it to heaven were based on works: The Hitler would probably be on the worst side of the scale
and Mother Theresa on the best side.

Where do you fall in good works on that scale? At what point on that scale do you fall from good to
bad? (Works scales are very subjective)

How is your eternal destination determined?

Why is there a Hell? (Hab 1:13, c.f. Rev 12:10)

What determines a person’s destination? (John 3:16; Daniel 12:2)

What is the default condition of man? (Romans 3:23)

What are some motivational factors in avoiding hell? Matthew 10:28, 5:29-30, Mark 9:42-49

Quick look at God and eternity:

Hard to imagine, never ceasing to exist (every human fits this design). Impossible to fathom, never
having a beginning (only God fits this).

Time is a property of matter which makes it a design built by God into our
universe. Imagine a 2 dimensional world (a picture of two people for
example). They look at each other and see what? A line. We look at them
from our 3 dimensional world and see them for what they really are.

Similarly, we see ourselves within the constraint of time, God sees us from
outside of time and sees both the beginning and end of time at the same
time.

What can we expect in eternity?

The following scripture is written to describe life after everything is all over and we are in the New
Jerusalem. Who are the nations and kings? Will there be different rewards and duties given to
believers? (Revelation 21:24 - The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their
splendor into it.)

What are some of the Reasons Jesus gives for eternal torment?

1. Parable of the 10 Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) - Key: Watch, be ready.
